Hi Everyone, I have been an emptynester since August 4th 2010. Not very long. There was one night about 10:30 in the evening and I was on the computer and to both the dog and myself the house sounded just like it did when he would come home from his job he had before he left for boot camp. The dog jumped up and ran barking to the front door with me close behind. It left us both missing him like crazy. Now we are past the PIR and spent such a wonderful weekend with him. He has gotten to call a bit more and that has been nice. Hope to see him again soon.

Welcome mom of two . No, it's not easy. Don't know how long you have been an emptynester, but even today I had to send a text to my sailor just to say hi. We had mac n cheese and peas at lunch at school, and that was one of his favorites.
Take care, Carol

Hi everyone. What a wonderful group. I thought I'd be ok but it's not that easy. Thank you for the opportunity to be able to talk about all these feelings that come with our children being away from home.

Hi everybody, I was just reading all of the comments and decided that this is exactly the place for me...so much in common with Jasons proud mom. It's comforting to know that I am not alone with all that I am feeling.

Has anyone read that book, When the Eagle Invades the Nest? I was thinking about getting one but thought I'd ask for an opinion on it.
Redfly-- We are young empties also, it is very difficult to let all the commotion go. I miss all the kids, but they do stop by to see us once in awhile when they are home from college. I always make sure there is a stash of homemade cookies in the jar for them. Hang in there, save a bit of money and do a little something for yourself. It's well deserved!

Redfly, we are glad to have you here. I know when our son left, so did his multitude of friends who spent the nights here, ate here, played loud games on the gamebox downstairs, etc. It took a while to get used to it--and our dogs were also lonesome for all the company.
We will be here.

My only son is going into the Navy in January and I am having such a hard time. My entire life, like other Moms on here, has been devoted to him and as I sit here counting the days down, I can't imagine my life without him and not even having him in the house. Come January, I will be an emptynester. I am not ready for that. To Jason's Proud Mom, I understand, my friends still have kids at home and when they start to complain about something with their kids, I tell them to enjoy every minute. I can't imagine why people want to be emptynesters. The house is so alive when the kids are there.... :)
