Welcome to GoatLady.
And, yes, Daysleeper is right--keep your letters to your sailors funny and upbeat.
Thinking of all of you at Christmas.
You won't be home for Christmas,
You're half a world away;
An empty place at table side
To welcome Christmas day.
Your portrait's on the mantel
Where once your stocking hung.
You smile at us, in uniform,
So brave, so sweet... so young.
While others' homes are crowded
With family and friends,
We'll think of you with longing
And love that never ends.
We'll join hands round the table,
And say a heartfelt prayer.
We'll ask God to protect you,
And keep you in his care.
And though we're not together
As Christmas eve departs,
You will be home for Christmas.
We'll hold you in our hearts.

This was posted by another mom on the USS GW site. thought it said it all.
Just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year. One of my daughters is home till January 1st. I had a hard day yesterday, I heard that Japan had an earthquake I cried trying to call my daughter. I was so worried about her. Sara kept telling me she was ok but i'm a mom I worry. When she finally called she tells me "I quess I slept through it" so typical of Mary. I was just happy that she was ok. I asked her what they do in Japan for Christmas. She said her and some friends were going to go get little Christmas trees for there rooms. I tried not to cry talking to her but I cried. I felt bad because she started crying also. This Christmas, will no doubt be difficult for all of us.

Hi Theresa, my daughter is 1/2 way thru BC. She's sent 2 letters so far. One 2 days after she arrived because they could write on Thanksgiving and another one last Thursday. I learned from her last letter that the rcts may not get to write every Sunday. My rct said she loved my letters and they help her sleep at night. Ahhh..music to this mother's ears.
So hang in there, I know the waiting is tough, it could be 3-4 weeks before you get that first letter - just keep writing!
Oh, we are glad to have you with us, theresa proud navy mom. Keep those letters coming. They do only get to write on Sundays, and not the first couple of weeks. I also missed a couple of phone calls because when it was my sailor's turn, he had to iron his uniform or stand watch. We're here for you, sweetie.
my son david arrived at boot camp 12/8/2010 i havent heard from him yet except the one minute phone call he is on ship 09 div 070. i find myself everynite waking up crying. i feel so lost and empty inside does anyone know how long it takes to start getting letters rom them?
Welcome to Amy**QM MOM**.
