Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

RED CROSS CONTACT INFO:

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

carol - you cracked me up with the food wrappers - that was just too funny (and cruel) I love it!

I'm new to the group, and have to admit, I'm not truly an empty nester yet. We still have a 16 yr old daughter at home, but most of the time, it feels like she's already gone, too. I'm a mom of 3, my 18 yr old is now in A School, and my 21 yr old son lives 3 hrs away. They both left about the same time. It's quite the adjustment, to say the least. I realized that they were pretty much my life, and now I've got to get my own again. The possibilities are endless, right? (:

Someone who loves bootcamp food? That's funny. Andy hated the salt substitute. We sent him some food wrappers from Taco Bell, which made both him and his RDC laugh. He told us "it was cruel."

Comment by mom of three on December 10, 2010 at 4:59pm: Hi everyone, I don't know about anyone else but I've had the hardest time cooking for just my husband and I. My husband always has to remind me "it's just the two of us". I also miss the kid conversation at dinner. Talking about work, day after day with my husband gets to be boring(nothing ever exciting happens at either of our jobs). Now its just so quiet. My kids always brought excitement. I truely miss that.

Our house was always the gathering place and it's so quiet now. :( But, I am holding on to the fact that the week before Christmas will be filled with my recruits' friends once again. :) I will also have 4 of my adult children here for Christmas. We are very fortunate this year to have 2 sailors home for Christmas. In addition to my son coming home from boot camp, my daughter's Navy boyfriend will also be coming to spend Christmas with us from Pearl Harbor. :)

We really missed the kids who all stayed at our house, ate up cheap spaghetti, and played video games downstairs. The older dog went nuts at the front door whenever anyone drove down the street playing a loud car stereo.

Betsy, I cannot imagine having the hubby 2000 miles away. We had a hard enough time when my husband was just 80 miles away till we sold our home. Our sailor was just 3 years old at the time. He would cry and have me drive him through the town trying to find his "best friend" until he calmed down.

My youngest son will graduate on Dec. 17 from boot camp and I just can't wait to hug him and hold him. I also have 2 daughters who are in college about 45 minutes from home, an older son who just graduated from college and has come back home to live for a few months (but is moving out in March, 2011). And, last but not least, the oldest of my children is my daughter, who is married and gave me two of the most beautiful grandchild ever, but lives 2000 miles away. My husband also works 2000 miles away, while I hold down the fort trying to sell our house in the Southwest. I spend a lot of time by myself. I look forward to sharing stories with you all and getting to know you.
