Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

RED CROSS CONTACT INFO:

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

Comment by carols_kitchen on July 17, 2010 at 6:45pm: I think I've packed as many as 8 boxes of little debbies treats in one. Another held 8 can sof beans, lots of gum, and some books. I also got 30 pillow cases in another--for our overseas Molly's Adopt a Sailor groups. You get creative.

Your husbnad may seem as if he is in 7th heaven, but the hubbies process their emotions through other channels.
The quiet house takes quite a while to get used to. Like you, I miss the household of friend tremendously. Plus, your "baby" left home at a young age, whereas our son was 20 in A school.
Keep in touch and let us know when you need a shoulder to lean upon!

Comment by carols_kitchen on June 29, 2010 at 10:35am: P-Bear, I can't imagine a "baby" of 17 leaving for boot camp. Wow. It was bad enough when our son left, but then we also lost the immediate group of his friends who used to eat and stay the night all the time. You never would think you would miss the mess.
Know you are with the right group when you joined us. It's been 2 years now for us. We've learned how to cope, but it will get harder now that our son is going out on his first deployment. He's been stateside for two years with training in two different schools, so we've been lucky.

Comment by carols_kitchen on June 20, 2010 at 2:01pm: Well, just to let you know that they let us set up under the trees, so it was really quite shady with a nice breeze at the park. I was late getting there and afraid I'd lost the good spots--but the people who were early, it turns out, were really rained on. Moved a lot of my office samples and kitchen products of people who's checks didn't clear, etc. So, I made back my money on those transactions. The best part, though, is I got enough orders to make a show, and got two people who want to have kitchen shows in their homes! This sure helps out my summer commissions!

It's on Sat., and it's to help raise money for Molly's Adopt a Sailor love packages we ship overseas to our troops, so wish me luck. I'll take a big cooler of water with me, and hope I find a spot under a tree!
