Our sailor son has been in King's Bay, GA for over a week now. His wife has an aunt and uncle there (retired Navy) and they love having a "boy" come and eat with them when he can! And, Aunt Faith is bribing him with home fried chicken, corn on the cob and real mashed potatoes (he never ate boxed potatoes so he's in love with hand mashed taters!) We hope to see him soon in a quick visit down there.

bobbysproudmom, welcome. You've pretty much hit the average as Connie said. My son's ship was one that had a lot of dropouts in it, so they did not get as many phone calls as other ships. Plus sometimes, believe it or not, they may only have one chance to iron their uniforms--and guess what? it's the same time as they could have and would have prefered to be calling you! Whenever our son couldn't reach us, he would call one of his friends, and they would relay the message.
Be sure and write tons of letters and mail favorite comic strips, etc. We're here when you need a shoulder to lean upon!

Our sailor was good and called us every few hours on his road with 2 other shipmates from CT to SC. It was much easier knowing they were trading off the driving and to picture where he was all the time. They had to make a stop in Norfolk to drop off one of the shipmates to his new assignment. Still, felt safer knowing they were being careful and taking their time on this drive.
Next up, reporting to his new assignment in GA!

You cook holiday dinners for someone else and get warm fuzzies. We were fortunate enought that first year to go to his base and cook for 13 sailors! The second year we got to cook Christmas dinner--almost a disaster when the storms knocked the power out.
This year, not sure what we will do, especially if the price of gas goes up. We'll just have to wait and see if we become honorary Air Force parents for the base closest to us in Illinois.
Hope all are doing well on this site!

trloguem--I am fortunate that our sailor is still stateside for at least another month. I have treasured every moment of it!

Ah, these sailors who take our Navy Mom hearts and go and get married! How dare they? lol
Hope you get to hear from him pretty often, trloguem. I was lucky to catch my son on facebook for about 45 seconds today, but that was nice.
Take care!

Our sailor will be home with us for a 10 day leave. It will be strange having him while his wife had to stay behind for college. I've put out a call to the very few of his friends still in the area--miss cooking all those piles of comfort food! Maybe there will be time for a super bowl party???? Hoping.

Our oldest has been gone for almost 2yrs, in the Navy. Our youngest left for BC on Dec. 1st. Hello : I'm Jess. I've been an empynester for almost 3 months. Admitting your problem is the first step....hahaha
We'll be heading to GL, on Feb. 4th.....our son graduates the 5th. I still have the habit of looking, in his room, for his ceiling fan to be left on.
What do you make, for dinner, with people? We're getting use to those smaller meals.......cutting the recipes in half. We even split 1lb of hamburger, put it in freezer bags. I still have my 3 kitty kids, who will never leave their mommy :)

It's strange how much our son has been calling lately--a GOOD strange. He is on opposite shifts as his bride, so I think he's just been reaching out. For the past few days, both hubby and I have been home and we share the call. It's funny what our sailor will tell one of us verses the other. And he seems to be reaching out to his Dad much more than ever. How great is that!
Hubby just surprised me yesterday. We get to go see our sailor soon for a short trip. We realize we may only see him for an hour or so due to his work and duty time, but it is still wonderful.
Now, to cook up some things to do with our daughter-in-law if she will have any time off from college. She is such a cutie!
