Dear EOD MOM,

I know you are scared, and sad. I hear it in your heart as you share your thoughts with others; and that's okay. Please know you won't always be so scared and sad. In time it will change.

Soon your heart will be full of such incredible pride; as you watch the child who needed YOU, become the strong adult whom others have entrusted their lives to.

Their bravery and strength are tested many times over; it builds their confidence. It allows them to see what their superiors have identified. The Navy spends countless man hours and a small fortune to ensure they are well prepared. There are so many "moms" in uniform watching over them; they WISH they only had one! Once they have that confidence, they WILL share that with you. Be ready, and watch for it.

I know there was a plan, there is always a plan. I rather think of it as an idea or a starting point. LOL. Then, there is change... continual change... Or as I like to refer to it as STOP, DROP, & ROLL...

I know it is hard to say goodbye in a moments notice. That will suck the lifeblood out of any mother, BUT for them.... they don't have the angst of wondering and worrying for too long before diving right in, literally.

Some may have to repeat a class /course over. Some will not continue on, but WILL go on to other things. I will never forget the day my son told me he had given up his Pilot slot for EOD. Talk about a shot across the bow. It seems as though each Christmas he outdoes himself!

It does take time for all of us to adjust. And it takes however long it takes.... there are no shortcuts, but there are things we can do to help us through. For me this site was a Godsend! Journaling helped. For every page I wrote, I made myself find one positive thing about the process, experience, decision etc. I also cut out a comic or two. I kept box ready to fill and mailed it when full. When I baked, I baked enough to share always. I always marked share & he always does. We have a running joke at our house, that helps ease things... Cut the red wire, green wire... He tells me cut all the wires. LOL.

Hugs & Prayers

Bonnie- I'm having some real episodes today and he's leaving tomorrow - I'm wondering if it's with your sons group since they said one person got dropped for feb 3 group and he's the replacement ??? I'm a hot mess but if it's this bad today will I be better or worse after he's sworn in .... Hopefully friends and family give me a crazy cry mom pass - I'll need it ! This really is a journey beginning !

D-hunterMom, I didn't really think about how freaked I would be without having ANY notice at all.  I mean, even a week's notice would have been nice!  I can't even imagine what you must be going through right now.  But hang in there!  It really is going to be great :-).

KJTsMomma- that must have been really tough on you . I guess I'm just going to deal and try to get my emotions in control for the next 24hrs because my coworkers today were giving me strange looks and then I would have to go into the story of my son is leaving tomorrow - I don't want my son to see that before he leaves.

D-HunterMom - I know how you are feeling.  However, I did have more than 1 day notice.  My son was supposed to go in April 2014, then he was going to be moved to Feb. 2014, so he could go with a buddy, then someone who was supposed to go in December got a DUI so he was out of the Navy.  So he went in Dec. 9, 2013. WOW - a shock to this Momma - thought I had a few more months.  But it has all worked out and my son will graduate from boot camp on Friday.  Been the longest 8 weeks of my life (except for the 9 months I carried him and his little brother).  Hang in there - pray a lot and often.  Being in Special Forces, they are going to train them to be the best! The US Navy is spending BIG BUCKS on our young men/women.  Two years of training is a plus too. They will take good care of them.  I've been doing a TON of praying - that's all I can do and it is helping me to deal with it all.

I totally understand!  I have to "block out" the scary thoughts.  They really get to do so many really cool things --  SCUBA diving, parachuting, traveling the world -- your son is going to love it! And you will be so proud of the man he is becoming :-).

Kelly- thanks - I'm trying but I have some low moments. I'm going to work on being excited or fake it til I feel it :)

D-hunterMom, choose to feel excited!  Your son is starting on a new journey and he is going to love it.  Boot camp is the least fun part of the journey, so be sure to write him often -- every day if possible, and keep it upbeat and happy.

So I guess I shouldn't have worried wanting a date - I'm getting a one day notice he's going tomorrow :( someone from the feb group was dropped and he's going as a replacement . No party , no get ready in any way. This is not what I expected - I feel horrible !!!!!!

My son is awaiting departure for boot camp in April. He has signed an EOD contract for 6 years. I was none too excited about this prospect when I learned what EOD meant! I am in prayer every day for his growth (mental) as he continues to prepare his body physically. I would appreciate any words of comfort as his ship date draws nearer. So thankful for this group!
