So glad your son is much happier Narob01! And glad that he isn't just sitting around and waiting until March.
Fortunately for me, I live in IL so if his PIR date changes, I can just change my day off work easily. When did you know for sure when his PIR date was?
Originally my son contracted with NUKE, then tried out for EOD and contracted with them. He's super excited and pretty anxious to get to BC. He seems bored right now at home...waiting.
Blessings to all EOD moms out there.
Talked to my son today. He sounds much happier. He is still getting workouts and is working on certifications that he would have had to get after they got to their first command. He feels like he is accomplishing something instead of just waiting for the March class. Happy son/happy mom.
My son's ship date didn't change but his PIR date did because they had to fill and 800 division and it was a 'push'. He graduated a week early. That was great but I had already booked my nonrefundable flight. It cost 200.00 to change a 250.00 flight. The moral to this story is fly SW. Or get refundable tickets.
Carolina Mom,
For one last attempt to find something cool for my son's party on Saturday, I called the local VFW yesterday to see if I could rent or borrow a US Navy flag. The gal I talked to said that I needed to talk to someone else who was not there at the moment. I gave her my name and number not expecting to hear from anyone. I received a call today from a gentleman and I explained again what I was requesting. He said that they have a Navy flag that had been on the flagpole and had brought in for the winter. He said that I could HAVE it! Can you believe that? He said that they will have it folded and in a bag and I can pick it up on Friday! I was so excited! I told my son (I couldn't keep this a surprise, I was too excited!) and he is amazed and can't wait to pick it up. Sometimes I am amazed at the generosity of strangers. And so very blessed to have the support of others.
Hope you are hanging in there. Prayers to you and all the moms on N4M.
My son was at dive school for five days when he burst an ear drum. He will not be able to continue with his class and will not be healed before the next one. That means he can't start again until March. He had been sick over Christmas and they think that is why. He has been scuba diving since he was 12 so I was surprised. He will stay in Panama City do some general duties, work out and stay prepared. As much as I wish he wouldn't do this I was so disappointed for him. I am now praying that he heals so he can continue his dream. This mother thing...it's tough ya'll!!!
