So glad your son is much happier Narob01! And glad that he isn't just sitting around and waiting until March.

Fortunately for me, I live in IL so if his PIR date changes, I can just change my day off work easily. When did you know for sure when his PIR date was?

Originally my son contracted with NUKE, then tried out for EOD and contracted with them. He's super excited and pretty anxious to get to BC. He seems bored right now at home...waiting.

Blessings to all EOD moms out there.

Talked to my son today. He sounds much happier. He is still getting workouts and is working on certifications that he would have had to get after they got to their first command. He feels like he is accomplishing something instead of just waiting for the March class. Happy son/happy mom.

My son's ship date didn't change but his PIR date did because they had to fill and 800 division and it was a 'push'. He graduated a week early. That was great but I had already booked my nonrefundable flight. It cost 200.00 to change a 250.00 flight. The moral to this story is fly SW. Or get refundable tickets.

Hi Carolina mom - thanks ! I guess I will just continue to wait but my poor friends have to listen to me and my emotions are so up and down - when I thought it was Feb I was getting anxious and a tad emotional. Your right I like planning and routines and not knowing is driving me crazy :)

Question that maybe someone will know - my son has contract for EOD and I think his leave original date for Basic ( can't remember abbreviation :/ ) July 9th or something close to that) and it was because he was going after graduation but now graduated early. They said they were moving his date up and doing paper work and he was leaving Feb 3. Then come to find no room for him with that
group - how often are there groups starting ? I feel so in limbo - I'd like to plan a party and mentally prepare -
Thanks!

Narob01 I will be praying for your son to heal and get back on track. My son is in RCU healing a stress fracture in his foot. I worry too about EOD but they have to follow their dreams and we moms have to spend a lot of time on our knees in prayer :)

Carolina Mom,

For one last attempt to find something cool for my son's party on Saturday, I called the local VFW yesterday to see if I could rent or borrow a US Navy flag. The gal I talked to said that I needed to talk to someone else who was not there at the moment. I gave her my name and number not expecting to hear from anyone. I received a call today from a gentleman and I explained again what I was requesting. He said that they have a Navy flag that had been on the flagpole and had brought in for the winter. He said that I could HAVE it! Can you believe that? He said that they will have it folded and in a bag and I can pick it up on Friday! I was so excited! I told my son (I couldn't keep this a surprise, I was too excited!) and he is amazed and can't wait to pick it up. Sometimes I am amazed at the generosity of strangers. And so very blessed to have the support of others.

Hope you are hanging in there. Prayers to you and all the moms on N4M.

Hello ladies! my son has been in 3 years this March and like Kelly's son just loves it. I don't feel like he is in danger every day. They do a lot of training and joint training with other countries. Yes, they are around explosives and anything can happen but they all seem to be on "high alert" when on the job. I feel that all these sailors have a keen instinct to see things that us normal people would not see and that's what makes them great EOD sailors. I know from my son that they have no problem calling each other out if something happens that is both dangerous and plain stupid to the group. They are a very tight knit family and have some of the same dynamics as brothers would. For the new moms just starting this journey you will all be in my prayers. To narobo01 hope your son is feeling better and gets to start back soon. Take care.

My son was at dive school for five days when he burst an ear drum. He will not be able to continue with his class and will not be healed before the next one. That means he can't start again until March. He had been sick over Christmas and they think that is why. He has been scuba diving since he was 12 so I was surprised. He will stay in Panama City do some general duties, work out and stay prepared. As much as I wish he wouldn't do this I was so disappointed for him. I am now praying that he heals so he can continue his dream. This mother thing...it's tough ya'll!!!

My son is in his last two weeks of SD. Thanks Kelly! You made another Mom a little less frantic today. My son has never sounded happier! Everything you said really makes sense! I'll probably be looking at your comment on a regular basis!
