Doxiemom and KJTsmomma, keeping you guys in thought and prayers. Hope the going away party goes well. I still cry when our son comes home and when he leaves. He doesn't like it when I cry even when it is tears of happiness but what's an EOD mom suppose to do. Surviving the cut was a good show. We dvr it and sometimes I rewatch it. Once in awhile the military will show stuff like that.
We are in the Saint Louis area. Looking forward to navy week which is in April.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Hugs and prayers. Karenlee

Karenlee - thank you for all your information regarding EOD.  Prayers . . . . I think I'll be doing a LOT of praying over the next 6 years.  Trusting God to watch over these brave Sailors.  I'm so proud of  my son and all those who have decided to go into all the special forces.  It takes a special kind of person to want to do the jobs they have set before them.  :)

Karenlee,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It has put my mind at ease. I have not cried once today. Victory! Similar to CarolinaMom, I am planning my son's "Anchors Aweigh" party (thanks for the idea!) I'm still trying to decide on the menu and need to order a cake.

I am very proud of my son, even though I haven't actually said it to him. I need to tell him (without tears). I have googled Navy EOD several time. In fact, last weekend my son found a program on Netflix called Surviving the Cut. It goes into great detail about their training. Very interesting.

By the way, I'm in Illinois. Not too far from GL.

The men in our son's group all were given a choice of where they wanted to be stationed. The all got their first choice request! They are finishing their training and are all excited about going to their station. Once they are at their station, they will train with the other men in their unit and then be deployed. We don't know where yet.

Bon-Codysmom that is what my son was told me. I hope it's true :)
I'm in Houston.

To all the new moms just starting this new adventure. Take a deep breath and relax. By the time they are done, they will be some of most highly trained sailors the navy has to offer. Yes, it is scary and you worry all the time but this is truly one of the best jobs in the Navy. My son has been EOD for all most 3 years. He loves it. There were times when I was afraid for him but I just prayed a lot and still do. They are coming into a wonderful family, one that takes care of their own at the job and outside of it. It is a great community. Just give your support and love on this journey-they will need it. The school is hard and they don't all make it. We had a few times with our son wondering if he would be allowed to stay in, mostly because he failed some tests. I am not trying to add any angst to what you are going through just wanted to let you know that those of us who have been through this know as a mom what you feeling. You guys should google Navy EOD, it gives you the time frame for their courses and what comes after they are done with school which is jump school, field training and tach training. After that they go on to their duty station. My son is in Spain, has been for almost 3 years but will be back stateside later this year. I will keep all of you in prayer as you begin this journey.

It is scary, but I have to trust that God will protect my son. What are our kids thinking?! They just want to make a difference in the world. Which makes me very proud! Yes, I too am glad they have a year of training then should be state side for quite a while. I'm glad we have each other for support!

Bon-Codysmom, my son is leaving on Feb 3 also. I'm scared to death as well. I try not to think about it but it wakes me up at night. If he had just not chosen EOD, I would be ok. All I can do is pray, pray, pray. And know that they will be in training for over a year. That is what is keeping me sane. I will pray for your son as well.
