There is more info at the link. I had to crop it here to stay under the 4000 character limit, but I know what you mean.... Knowing more doesn't always equate to worrying less!

We just try to encourage him to stay the course, and stand in amazement of his accomplishments --- so proud of these guys, knowing how difficult this program is.

Thanks JackFlash for the information. Narob01, we worried constantly. I didn't know about this NAVYFORMOMS until he graduated from EOD. I wish I had known about it when he started. So many parents heard about this site at Boot Camp Graduation weekend. We weren't one of those parents....

I don't know if this was good for me to read or not! Glad for the info but kinda put my stomach in a knot. Wonder why he didn't describe Core... maybe I don't want to know.

I don't know how accurate the info is, but I found the following breakdown of the training pipeline on a military forum:

Your first day of school is Navy INDOC

"Demo Division"
- You have 3 Tests in Demo
*Demo is about two weeks long and you get to play with explosives everyday. You will have a 1,000lb shot, and several smaller shots. Demo was pretty fun!.. Safety is your #1 priority in this Division. With it being the first division of school, failure to show signs of safe demo procedures will get you on a one way ticket out the door. Following instructions are crucial.

"TMD (Tools and Methods Division)"
Again you have 3 tests in this division
*The division is about 9 days and was very fast paced. This is where you learn about the “Tools and Methods” when dealing with Rendering safe ordnance.. Again, Safety is key!.. You will be working with explosives, a few types of ordnance, and EOD tools… Tools + Explosives = no room for error

"CORE"
Once again 3 tests in this division
This division is where you begin to loose your classmates, my Class numbers went from 24 to 21 in my class.

"GROUND" (Ground Ordnance Division aka GOD
6 Tests in this division and it is about 21days long
*This division is where you put everything you have learned up to this point and apply it to a situation. I.E. Do a Recon on a piece of ordnance, successfully ID the ordnance using the pubs, render the ordnance safe using the tools and methods taught, and the dispose of the ordnance using the correct demo procedures. This is again where my class got ALOT smaller losing 8 total, the class behind lost 14. This is also where you begin to notice you are not going to make it through this school without your classmates. Form a study technique that the hole class jives off of and make sure your class studies together.

"AIR Division"
You have 8 Tests in AIR, and its about 28days
*Air is very intimidating by this point cause you will hear all the horror stories leading up to Air, and well most are true. Guided Missiles will eat you up and spit you out. After the Guided Missiles test we are now at 11 people in my class.

"IED Division"
7 Tests and 24 Days Long
*Coming from AIR and feeling like your almost done might feel good and should feel good at this point, BUT... DO NOT THINK YOUR DONE... Unfortunately lots of people get relaxed and let their guard down... We are now down to 7 in my class. Robots, bomb suits, IEDS, wires, batteries, explosives, EOD tools, etc… This is why most of you joined!

"BC (Bio-Chem) Division"
4 Test and 9 days long
*For me this was the longest 9 days of my life!!!. in the First 4 days you’ll drown with information and then take a test on all of this information on day 8 so don't forget all the millions of things they teach you. It’s Bio-Chem!.. Unless your into that stuff its very scientific broke down, and is very hard to understand a lot of it. GOOD NOTES is key

"Nuclear Ordnance Division (NOD)"
5 Tests and 15 days long

Lets just say at this point of school your done, just stay in the game and don't get cocky just yet. This was by far one of my favorite divisions... Lots of fun, lots of laughs, and your in a good mood everyday..

LAST DIVISION!!
"Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)"
2 Tests and 10 days long

Hi Narob01. My name is Marsha, and thanks!

Dive school is 2 months. That's if there are no problems. My son was rolled twice, once for pneumonia and the second time for a perforated ear drum. Only one person was dropped in Dive School.  EOD school is 10 months, again if there are no problems of failed tests. Our son was double tapped twice, which rolled him back to take the classes over again. 75% of the class failed during his time there. The maximum number of students in both Dive School and EOD Training is 25. My son said if your son made it through Dive Prep, he should have no problem in Dive School. People spend anywhere between 12 to 19 months in total for Dive and EOD. Brandon took 19 months. That includes leave time and sick time as well. I hope this helps.

Brandonsmom,

Congratulations to you and your new EOD tech. My son just passed dive prep and will head to Panama City after the stand down. I was wondering how long did it take for your son to go from dive school through EOD training? About how many kids to a class? And the drop rate with his dive prep class was like 66%. What is the drop rate for the rest of the training?

Our son's EOD graduation was on a Monday. We went down Friday night and were able to spend time with him over the weekend, as well as Monday through Wednesday. They can be with you before the graduation and after the graduation our son took us on a tour of the museum. We were able to spend the rest of the day with him. His Chief had a BBQ for the grad's and their families at his home. It was great to meet everyone. All or most of the families had dinner together every night.

Hi Bonnie, congrats on your son going into the Navy and going EOD. This will be a long journey with a lot of joy and tears. It will be stressful for all of you. Your son will need all the encouragement that you can give plus some. It is not easy when you can not be there to support them. My son graduated 2 and 1/2 years ago. He loves what he does. They are highly trained and take good care of each other. So I would like to welcome you to the EOD family.

Oh my gosh Bonnie! I live in Waxahachie. My son just passed dive prep today. The next thing after Boot Camp. I am only a few months ahead of you and by no means an expert but would love to stay in touch on this most difficult mom journey ever.

My son is a little older and did two years in Nicaragua with the Peace Corps. We had already been through the far, far, away, little communication, constant worry thing. Still this Navy, EOD thing came as a great shock. He tried to warn me but I just didn't hear it.

Stay on the Boot Camp for Moms site. I was amazed at PIR that you could tell the parents that hadn't been on this site. They were kinda lost. I never would have made it without them!!! Believe what they tell you. It will get better, not easy but better, especially when they get their phones back.

Let me know about your son. We are so close we could even meet for lunch if you want to. It is so good to have someone who understands.

I look forward to hearing from you.
