My son is at Eglin now. I had no idea that was such a huge base! He says its a 25 minute drive just to get to his classes.  The galley food is awesome and he also likes his barracks.

I've stayed at the Bay Point Marriot both times I was down in Panama City, it's very nice and only about 5 minutes from the base but it can be a little pricey if you're booking on short notice. There's a La Quinta right across the street from the base that looks fairly new and nice though.

I just got home from visiting last weekend, all the boys are looking great and can't wait to move on to Eglin :)

foreverMom, our son hasn't left SD, so he hasn't started even in GL yet.  He'll go to PC for dive school after GL.

Thanks Navyarmy and HMSP for the info!  I'm like a dry sponge needing water (information!).

Swims: Hi and welcome.  My son was also in BUDS and ended up in EOD.  From SD, he went back to GL for 3 weeks--PTs, etc, but not as tough as BUDS.  But they did end up losing quite a few; they started with 31 and ended with 11 going to Panama City, FL.  In PC, they acquired 8--some rollbacks and officers.  Now, they have lost a few in Dive School and are down to 15 or 16. I think they are on week 6 now.
