My fiancé is 38 years old and joined the reserves, he wanted to be active but he's too old. He got a great score on his ASVAB 98, and they gave him AECF. What I'm surprised about is that they put someone who is reserves through such a long school. Does anyone have any experience with this?

this may not be the correct answer...however, AECF school is one of the longest. So regardless of whether he is reserves or active, he would be required to complete that schooling in order to be AECF. Do you know yet what job in AECF he will be assigned to? FC or ET?
Regardless, you can both be proud of his ASVAB score and being part of AECF. Not all are qualified for it. Our sailor is active, currently attached to the USS Germantown. He also had a high ASVAB score of 96. He was offered Nuke, but knew that subs were not for him, so they then offered AECF. He is an ET and really likes it.
Congrats to your fiancé!

Thank you. I'm definitely very proud of him! I just wasn't sure about why they would school him so long for a reserve. Believe me, we are happy about it because he will have great job opportunities when he's done with school. Not sure yet if he's doing FC or ET. He just went in on the 16th, and from what I've heard they decide about half way through. Do you know anything about C school, like how long or where? I know there are a bunch, but from the experience with your sailor as an ET, what did he do?

I don't know how reserves works...but for our guy...PIR was Jan. 2011.  ET "A" school is in Great Lakes for about 1 year. Then "C" school was San Diego and Norfolk total about 5 months. Then he got assigned to his ship and left for Japan May 2012.
Maybe you can call your local recruiting office and get info from them pertaining to what your fiancé's schedule would be for sure. Might be completely different for reserves.
Maybe someone else on the forum might be more knowledgeable. All the best to you and your fiancé !

I was an ET, when I was stationed in Japan, we did have ET reservists come to train with us for a couple weeks.  That was fun and interesting for us all, except for the one guy who was completely clueless about cultural differences.  We had to teach him not to hit on Japanese housewives!

ETs have C schools of all different lengths in a lot of different places.  No way to tell where or how long until he gets orders.

Hello Hello Anti M! It's been a long time...life has dragged me away from here for quite some time!
So glad you are still here!  I forgot about the "ongoing" C schools for ETs!
Always a pleasure to read your posts with reliable answers and great stories!
