Now that hubby is a trucker, I've been on all those roads riding along. The I-80 run across Nebraska and Colorado isn't that bad, and the interstates are kept pretty clear ... unless there's a huge storm that closes all the roads. Once you hit I-70 in Utah, you're in Southern Utah and there will be less bad weather ... mostly. Once you get down around St. George, the roads are clear.

Chicago to St. Lois, down 44 to I-40, over to I-15 and straight down onto I-215. Run both routes through something like mapquest that gives you total miles. Then have your sailor find out if the Navy pays per mile actually driven, or if they pay by shortest route ... just for info.

LA is bad, but not at all impossible. I much prefer California drivers to ... well, drivers in other places, LOL. Flagstaff is up around 7K feet, you can get snow there too, just somewhat less than Denver. And I hate Amarillo, but that's the TA truckstop's fault. ha.

I'm thinking that route is too icy and snowy. We don't drive in ice, LOL. I thought going from GL down to SW Missouri first to get away from the weather, then over to amarillo, albequerque, flagstaff, San Diego.

anyone experienced in plotting a course from GL to San Diego? Yahoo has it going through des moines Iowa, nebraska, Denver, Utah, Las Vegas and down to SD. He needs my help finding him places to stay and mapping it out. I know my aunt lives in Denver. Its a 35 hr drive. I'm scared for him to drive through Los Angeles. Any resources anyone can direct me to. I don't want to re-invent the wheel if someone has this worked out. Should I blog it?

Way to go Kellie, great memories. I gotta see a close-up of Anne's baby. It looks absolutely beautiful in the avatar.

I understand for Christmas leave, they are running shuttles from the base to O'Hare for $20 per sailor. I had heard it was pricey going from GL to O'Hare.

Kellie - you've been gone TOO long, we have a 101 memebers and Anne brought the baby so that might even be 102!!!

I bet Chicago was absolutely beautiful in the evening and so glad that you got to enjoy some snow flakes with Mickie. How expensive was the cab from O'hare to Metra? So glad that you enjoyed yourselves - like there was any doubt!

The day before Thanksgiving is a full work day, although chiefs have been known to let their sailors knock off a little early in the afternoon. You didn't hear that from me!

C schools ... these can be as short as 2 or 3 weeks, in which case the sailors gets several. One of mine was a full six months long and on an Army base.

C schools can be given anytime after A school, usually between commands when the new command needs sailors with specific skills. As an ET, I had five or six C schools throughout my enlistments, plus micro-miniature repair (2M) and C-7 (advanced electronic theory); hubby had at least a dozen schools or more.

Hi Anne, they usually see the classify on the third or fourth week of boot camp and then they will know which rate that will be. How old is your baby?

Karla, needless to say I will be letting...the world know what happens with the orders on Wednesday. I also wonder if they will be working the day before Thanksgiving (?)

Michelle - PIR week! I know you are excited, have you gotten the ...I'm a Sailor call yet?
