Doing laundry is dangerous work. I can't stop laughing.
Oh, Jackie, I hope he's not gonna miss out on anything. Probably not classes. He sounds tough. Patrick was on light duty during live five in BC when they cut him open on his chest and leg. He NEVER told me about it until graduation. Figures.

What is Mustin and Porter, and Wisconsin? I remember the Cole was way back next to the 833 bldg. Can anyone tell me what bldg # 835 is called? I guess I could ask my son, if he ever calls. Grrrr. He does call once a wk. I've been reading about you all sending cookies. I think 4 suitcases of his "stuff" should suffice........

Jealous Jackie, 4th of july in GL, we may try to go up Labor Day. I did get a text from the boy last night, he said he has been very busy but took last night off from classes - didn't say how he was spending his evening but he seems to be focused on class. I know he has duty today and the weekend off which I think he is ready for.

Doing laundry is dangerous work - huh?

grrrrrrrrr...haven't talked to my son in three days! What will I ever do when he goes out to the fleet?!!! I am always reluctant to call him with their schedule of class, duty, etc. Last we talked, he was on his way back for night classes so I'm assuming he is just busy but geez maybe I better get to work on those cookies soon!

Is doing the Commanders' Cup...optional?!

The flag gives them some bragging rights, I wonder how often they do this event.

Oh Peg, on this forum - you never have to apologize for being a...mom!

I maybe mistaken but I don't believe the SCC program is anything to be worried about. It's just a basic seamanship program and they are tested and need to pass the program but your son should have no problem with this course. SCC is not self-paced, it is a structured and scheduled program.

When they move into ATT, the program kicks in. It is basic electronics course that they have to learn before starting their actual A school. Classes are nine hours long a day and then there is an expectation or request for volunteer sessions in the evening as well. I have not been able to talk to our son long enough to know if they test each week or what the testing schedule is like. ATT is a self-paced program, with that being said the students are told that the expectation of the program is ____ weeks but depending on their individual progress they will finish sooner or later. Sooner is good, later could be a problem. They are not going to allow them to be weeks behind the other students but some may move thru the material a tad faster than others.

With ATT, the students always know exactly where they are at in the program.

With Dan still being in SCC, he is still very new - he probably doesn't have alot of the answers for you yet but once he moves into ATT, he will be living and schooling with the FCs and ETs and they will be a various stages of their training and they learn alot from those sailors.

No Peg, you're not overdoing it at all...my son just wants to know if you are available for hire?! Making us other moms look bad! Just kidding but I do think it's time to work on a care package for my son...thanks for the motivation. PS...you'll probably get a thank you card from him next week!!!

Feeling the pressure to do something nice for my son, I'm going to work on those cookies this weekend...hoping the 100 degree weather chills down before turning on that oven.

In our brief conversation last night, he just sounded stressed and was heading back for some evening classroom time. He is such a laid back kid for him to stress makes me believe the pressure to perform is on.

Thanks for the link on the Commander's Cup - I wonder if they receive a reward for the win? Extra liberty, first in line at the galley? Or ?

Oh the pressure!!! I haven't sent my son anything yet!! I must work on those peanut butter cookies soon!!! Actually we didn't feel comfortable mailing anything to him until he got settled into his current ship, he knew that he would be moving after SCC just didn't know how long it would take.

Last week he did ask for his digital camera so that was his first package and I did take time to include some photos of his dog and some lollipops from See's Candies so perhaps he will forgive me for lack of cookies!

He did tell me that he bought peanut butter and jelly recently as it can be a challenge to make it to the galley somedays depending on the classes/duty so perhaps sending some food might be a welcome site. I understand they have small kitchens between their rooms with a microwave and frid.
