I know I've asked this before, but can't find the answer. Can anyone tell me the best place to find E-2 advancement results? Also, when they are or were due to be released?

I have sons that are both ET's; one is a nuke and the other went AECF. The nuke went first of the two. I actually tried to convince him to go the AECF route before he started, but he had his mind made up. I know several ex-nukes and did quite a bit of research on the training pipeline. That's why I suggested he change.

After going through the pipeline and then seeing what the AECF training entailed (through his younger brother), he admitted to me that he wished he had gone that route. He has done well as a nuke, however. It hasn't affected his motivation.

I answered over in the forums.  Yeah, he does not get a fallback choice.  If he makes it through A school, and fails Power School, he gets to be the conventional version of what he already studied (ET, EM, MM).  Usually.  If he really messes up, then he could end up undesignated.  This is not the end of the world, but it is far more fulfilling to have chosen your rate.

thanks ssbeach. Thats kinda what I thought. Ultimately it is his decision but I would be happy if he stayed in the AECF rate.

I don't know about that, and I can't imagine they'd ever guarantee that. I have several friends who have kids that left nuke school for one reason or another, at different points in their schooling, and none went to anything that they had a choice in. Most went out undesignated within a day or two of being told they were out - some went within hours - and others went to whatever seemed to have a short A school and needed people right away. If anyone tells him that, get it in writing, preferably from someone ranked well above. Remember, it's all about the needs of the Navy and anything can change at any time.

Thanks for the helpful comments. They told him that if starts nukes and drops out he can go back to AECF rate, is that correct? or does he just get stuck with whatever is available?

Fabulous answer, Anti M. My son is an ET on a cruiser and loves it and my son-in-law is a nuke on a sub and loves it. They're two very different fields. Newnavymom, your son needs to pursue what interests him most. If he's not interested in the nuclear field he will be setting himself up for two years of being miserable in school, then four more years of doing a job he may not like, at the least, or he'll fail out on purpose or because the stress is just too much and be reassigned to another job he's not interested in. My son was in the same situation as yours and had the luxury of being able to talk it out with my son-in-law, luckily. He's been the honor graduate at each school along the way and has really applied himself because he loves the field. He would have absolutely tapped out of nuke school.

Does he want to be a nuke?  Yes.  If not, then no.

AECF offers many good duty station options.  The school is moderately difficult, and chances for advancement are not as good as for nukes.  However, as an ET, I found the work enjoyable.  Many different options for C schools and duty stations.  Very much a mainstream Nvy experience.

Nuke school is very difficult, and yes, many flunk out.  More are reclassified because of stress or underage drinking, or even being around others who are drinking.  Two years of school.  Only the larger ships have nuke power plants, and the volunteer submarines.  Fewer liberty ports overseas.  Nukes are first on the vessel to power it up, and last off when they get home.  Nukes do have large reenlistment bonuses and advance well... but that is a perk, not a main reason to choose a rate.

My nephew is a nuke on a sub, he loves it.  I was an ET, as was my husband, and my sailor who is in Japan.  We all loved our rate.

He should choose what interests him most.  He will be doing it (or something similar) the rest of his life even if he does not stay in the Navy.

Sorry, new at all this! My son signed up last week for AECF. He took his nuc test yesterday and passed so they want him to switch to nuc. From everything I had read I was very happy with AECF and kinda scared about the nuc program ( hard, dropping out, etc) so should he switch??
