Welcome Andrew's Mom, we are glad you are here. Understand your son is in DEP so don't hesitate to ask questions in the days ahead. His rate of ET or FC is assigned during the 3rd week of boot camp now. They meet with the counselors that week and depending on the need he will be assigned one or the other.

I just remembered that Julie's son is graduating on Friday from A school and if she was able to get out of Iowa, she is planning on attending so perhaps she can give us a report when she returns.

Yes to both graduations CCR but nothing like the PIR of bc. Very small, few guests or family members. Doesn't mean you cannot attend but ...don't look for the band to play!

Also so many of them get leave following their graduations that they are often heading home for leave immediately following grad.

Can anyone tell us if there is an A school graduation or a C school graduation?

Millye, I'm thinking that Claire is probably Phase I at this stage and she may not be able to stay out all night with you. Although I did go down and see my nephew in Gulfport, who was stage one and he was able to put a request to spend the weekend off base. They did call us to verify that we were coming down to Gulfport and to confirm our hotel reservations.

Then he had to call into muster in the am and pm so it was no problem at all.

Millye, it sounds like the 2.5 week ATT plan for FC is very new and maybe a pilot program to see how it works out. My son is in the first class to try it and I think CCR's son is as well. He called last night and has two more mods to finish and believes he should be wrapping it up this week. So we are anxious to see if he moves right to A school or what.

They typically do get the holiday weekends off - less any duty they may have.

Yum, I love crystallized ginger, or just plain ginger. Did you know they made it in jars now, just like they make minced garlic? So much easier not to have to peel and mince.

hehehe. They all get their "sea legs" sooner or later but I understand that first time out is mighty interesting!
