i love old dogs, I also have a special place in my heart for pit bulls.. I have a 2 year old red nosed little girl that my Army son left in my care.. but our local humane society is having a adopt a classic in honor of hot august nights which is a week long car show... they have a 12 year old male pit who is as sweet as can be .. he even waddles from being over fed.. my husband said no more dogs 4 is enough.. LOL and our dogs are so horribly spoiled.. they have an indoor and outdoor kennel depending on the weather LOL and we just put carpeted area's down in the outdoor to make them more comfy LOL

I do remember that, it's why when I cleaned the shed, I have all those screws in all those plastic containers now. I picked up every one!

If you're going to reap the benefits of being the only vet in town, then you have to step up as the only vet in town during emergencies.

TDM a couple months ago our little baby Tucker who was 6 months old collapsed when I got home from work.. I let all 4 dogs out of their kennels in the garage and Tucker the baby was following the big girls in but when i turned around to see why he hadnt gotten to the back door he collapsed at my feet. was disoriented and pee'd all down the front of me.. I called the only vet in town at 4:50 told them what was going on.. only to be told we are closing.. and it doesnt sound good he probably wont make it through the night.. just make him comfortable until he passes... WHAT??????? ARE YOU JOKING??????????? The next morning he was thankfully still with us and I remembed there was a vet in reno open on Saturday... his breathing was so shallow , his little gums were gray.. we get to the vet.. not even our regular vet mind you and they immediately took him in... then admitted him to their hospital.. 4 days and 1500 bucks later we found out he had eaten a galvanized screw.. which caused metal poisoning.. he had to have a transfusion too!!! ( I think you remember when this all happened) This vet not only took our dog in immediately, even before his scheduled patients.. but didnt ask us for a dime until Tucker was 100% well.. there are hardly any vets that would do that these days... I sing the praises of this vet every single chance I get... that is true compassion...

I guess, Inga...poor little thing was stung by a bee, her snout was twice it's normal size! That dog slept underneath my son's bed from the day he came home from the hospital until we lost her.

HEY!!!! did anyone watch the new youtube I posted up above??? geez, ladies! I bring you gifts...good grief!

Raced into the closest vet's office with my new born baby and our Springer Spaniel pup's nose so swollen she was gasping for breath....at 5 minutes to 5pm. The receptionist said, "sorry, we're closing, no time..."

Thank goodness, there was another vet a few blocks away...it was after 5 when I got there, they unlocked the door, grabbed Duchess and she had an antihistamine shot before they even got her name on a piece of paper.

sometimes I call it the "little people with a little power" syndrome. Or maybe just "bitch"...,male or female!

Cher I take advair and preventil and when I have a bad attack I end up in the hospital on massive amounts of steriods/oxygen and breathing treatments.. My advair without insurance would cost me up to 375.00 a month!! and the wonderful manufacturer puts it in a 60 day dose which should be adequate right .. nope I consistantly have 2-4 doses that are empty.. I email the company.. oh sorry here's a $5 off coupon.. WHAT??? wow how generous!! When I got married 3 years ago.. I was able to obtain insurance .. my husband works for the gov't. .. my advair was 50 a month... now its up to 90 in 3 years.. We are blessed that finances are not an issue ... but I know all to well how expensive asthma meds are.. you can not just not take it cause you will end up in the hospital... fortunately preventil has a generic equivalent so I can get the for $5...

Also we started going to our little mom and pop pharmacy.. because they will go above and beyond they often know about manufacturers coupons.. the big guys know but dont seem to care... My pharmacist consistantly gives me a coupon for my advair...

We switched to the small guys because of what you described.. I know small mom and pops will offer to split the prescription up making it more affordable.. and I have seen a heart patient get a pill or 2 the day before they can refill it just to get them by... but this of course takes building a relationship with your pharmacist and the big stores sometimes are so impersonal.. I refuse to go to our walmart after what happened to me... I was in urgent care due to a breathing problem a few months ago.. we waited in line for about an hour.. we get to the counter and this very rude woman looked at me and said I will take that but we are not going to fill it tonight.. she was very rude I asked to speak to a supervisor.. why not tell me while I am waiting a freaking hour in your line??? now I have to drive 45 minutes into Reno to get this??? I can't go without it or I end up in the hospital tonight.. they didnt care they were closing and the best part.. me standing there arguing with them... put them past their closing time!!! hahaha :)

Karen, I know exactly what you're saying. My financial world is very shaky, no work at all this summer in catering. The economy and the heat! I think all of my regulars have left town this year....nothing.

I enjoyed the discussion .. I also appreciated all the different experiences coming too it.. and respected all of them...
