Trish - Naples is beautiful!!! I think he will love it. One of Nick's division mates is an MA and he got stationed in Italy and has been there for a 1.5 years now and loves it. His mom went over and visited him in August - he will be getting new orders soon and I don't think he wants to leave!!!

Danielle --- see the places that await your son?!!! Yes, they can communicate from overseas. Generally an International calling card is the cheapest way to go but you can also buy international prepaid phones cheap and buy minutes as you need them. They do get free time --- when they are stationed overseas or in the USA, unless they have duty, sailors have the weekend off and can site see but generally will have mileage restrictions. The Navy really encourages them to site see when they are overseas and the MWR offers discounts on local events and short trips for the sailors and their families to experience the area.

Nope.......welcome to the Navy. RollerCoaster come with the enlistment!

Good Morning all.

Pooky, thanks for the update on the Navy Lodge in GL. I did not realize they served a light breakfast there. I also recommend them for a cost stand point, basic but clean and close to the base. I stayed at the Navy Lodge in Norfolk in April - very new and very nice in Norfolk.

Good morning GA families - I'm liking the weather report for this area ---- no rain and a tad cooler on the tempertures :-) Hope everyone is well!

Danielle-B's mom(Ship12 Div385: I hear you! LOL. We also have two dogs, too, so they'll be barking much of the time. We're actually going to move into the basement (hope it's a bit more muffled. A friend in Alpharetta recently had her's done and she's still trying to work out the leaks, one of which was they dented her rain gutter right over a much used sliding door to the back. During the rain's it rained in whenever she let her dog out. They had put their ladder there to bring up the roofing materials. My husband plans to watch them while they work to make sure this crew doesn't do the same kind of damage. We'd rather prevent it from happening rather than dealing with them later on to fix it. We are excited about getting it done and preventing future water damage we just suffered on the second story ceilings.

To all the GA moms. My prayers to everyone but especially those who sustained damage during the recent rains. We consider ourselves lucky. We had some water in our basement and a few leaks in the attic causing a water stain with mold on the ceiling in our son's room. Luckily, he's stationed in Whidbey Island, WA. We're finally getting a new roof this week ... scheduled due to hail damage from the April storm! It will be a noisy few days here.

A dry but colder week...I say bring it on! The rains last night did not cause any problems for us and now we are seeing the sun and they are talking we are going to get winds of 20 mph today and that may help dry things up nicely :-)

Danielle - I have never heard of any negative issues with a meet 'n greet but I would encourage the group to use a restaurant that has a private room so you can get up and mingle and perhaps have the liberty of moving tables around to accomodate your group. I hosted the first meet 'n greet when our son graduated and the Navy4Moms folks came out to it and did a webcast from the restaurant to members back at home - it was so much fun. We did that gathering at the Full Moon Cafe' near the base. Great menu, too much food and good prices. I definitely recommend it for breakfast one morning while you are in town. Owned by a Greek family and always full of Navy folks, very close to the base. Most gatherings this year take place at their other restaurant called Flannagans as they have a liquor license. Food is good at both and a large menu to choose from.

funny wade...I was just singing the same song, just not sure when I want it to come back but it's coming down pretty good here at the moment.

Hey Emily - sorry I don't remember how many academic test they take but BJ WILL be fine!

Dona...hope you make it to and from Savannah okay. Our daughter is in Statesboro and I believe they got a quick and hard blast of rain one day but it didn't last long.

Robin - how you must of rejoyous-ed to hear that he found his note in the bible. Nope, church is not mandatory in boot camp. Thursday was always our mail day too...our family lives in MI so if I son wrote the rest of the family, they would get mail on Wednesday and would call and read it to us and then we would get a letter the next day - those were bonus weeks!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Our water in Douglas is not brown, but it had a bad odor yesterday. We drink bottled water and use it for coffee, brushing teeth, etc. A lot of our neighbors did not have water at all until yesterday. Several of our friends lost family members in the waters from washed out roads-very sad. So I just can't complain about the lack of ATT service and water inconvenience. Hope all N4M friends are well. I have to go to a conference in Savannah this weekend and it is supposed to rain again Saturday-I hope we don't have any trouble getting back. We still have a lot of main roads closed. Congratulations to PIR moms!

Good morning all.

Our water is lighter color this morning but still not normal. The water department told me it is not contaminated, it is maganese (sp) and it should have been cleared yesterday. Hmmmm....need to do some homework on that!

Hope everyone is well and wanted to wish Elaine a safe trip to Great Lakes today as they head off to proudly see their son do his PIR on Friday!!! Anyone else graduating this week?
