Sorry Wanda - just keep thinking about the end of summer. I agree with Barbara, it never gets easier. My hubby was a sailor for 10 years and every good bye was a tough one but ohhhh those homecomings!

Chris -- Ft. Benning is in Columbus...right? That is a couple hours south of me. I wonder if there is a timeshare type place or extended stay hotel that you can rent out then it would be furnished, kitchen, etc. I know the area somewhat but the best I could suggest is an internet search ---

shhh...don't tell Wanda today but our Nick will be home tomorrow just for the weekend. I hate to even admit that to our fine moms here that are longing to see their sons or daughters.

I bet Chersten is talking BC as in boot camp - especially with a boyfriend heading to Nuke school in Charleston - is that right(?) What part of N. GA are you from. PS - Welcome!

Ohh Wanda...if we hide his seabag would that help?!!!

Hi Chersten! Did you say BC as in Boston College? Congrats to him and you. We just arrived back from BC collecting our daughter who finished her sophomore year there. My prayers to you both as you continue this awesome life's journey. My son (graduated from Auburn in '05) is now stationed in Whidbey Island where he is flying jets. Its a bit far from his/our home here in Powder Springs.

I think gas was about $4 a gallon when our son graduated and it was a 13 hour (?) drive to GL, also hubby was short on vacation time so we shopped prices and flew in for the PIR, of course that meant renting a car when we landed but found an excellent car rental working thru Delta airlines. We stayed at Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire and it was really very nice but about 10 miles from the base. Lots of folks like it in the Gurnee Mills area because of the mall and movie theater but our son had no interest in running around that weekend or going to the mall. He was happy to chill out, take long showers and sleep in! Homewood Suites provided extra space, separate bedroom, small kitchen and with Navy discount it was $84 per night with breakfast each day and a nice property. It did have an indoor pool which was nice in April. He did want to go out for a good steak and we did go to the movies once but he was really happy not to be on schedule after 8 weeks of boot camp. There are many places to pick from Renita - be sure to ask for the Navy discount.

Good morning ladies - just stopping by to say hello. Trying not to be TOO jealous of Wanda!!! LOL Expecting our college girl to come home tonight from Statesboro. She starts working here on Tuesday and will be here most of the summer. If things go right she will be here tonight and our Sailor son will be home next Thursday -- just for the long weekend.

Wanda ... congrats. I got tired of waiting to see my son after he was transferred to WA last July. So, we turned in all our extra frequent flier miles to go see him and his wife the beginning of March. I'm leaving tomorrow for Auburn U. (fwhere my son went to college/NROTC) where my son and his wife are flying in for his best friends graduation and commissioning into the Navy (his friend was delayed for a tour of duty in Iraq as a marine before coming home to finish college as a Navy man). So I get to see him twice this year already...and on Mother's Day weekend. And, to top it all off, my son (now a LTJG flying jets) is being allowed to be the commissioning officer for his friend!

oh Irene - they are all growing up on us!! What college is he heading to?
Got your note about the Chattnooga gathering - look forward to see ya there!

Jean - I will be excited to see him but just a tad stressed, been taking down all the old wallpaper, repainting the house, cleaning closets. Thought I had all kinds of time to work on it - now both of our babies will be home within two weeks! Yikes! College girl will be back home for the summer so she can work!
