Welcome ItsMeLesaT!  Glad to hear that mail will be delivered to your son vickimed!  Jamie still hasn't gotten his birthday box I sent on Nov. 12 and he's not even on a ship!  After reading the guidelines I took all of his Christmas presents out of the huge box I had them in and put them in three separate flat rate boxes.  The only thing that would not fit is the pre-lit small Christmas tree we were going to send him.  Oh well, I'll save it for next year.  LOL...

Checked with my son, he is the lead postal clerk on his ship! I told him DO NOT OPEN UNTIL XMAS!

Well great news on son's mail. It was announced yesterday on the ship's page that Christmas came today. They pulled into port and had ocer 30 pallets (over 3000 lbs) of mail to include packages from Molly Adopt a Sailor. I mail first package out the first of Oct andhis Christmas Nov. 14th.There are a lot of happy sailors on this ship. On top of mail they also got Liberty. Hopefully I will hear from him.

We missed the snow, darn it! My son has been in the Navy since 2007 and just re-enlisted. He is an LS3 (logistics specialist) his actual job to begin with was Postal Clerk.... But they merged with supply. I think he does several things now. Glad to have local Navy moms to talk to. I wish I had found this website sooner!

Good morning.  Found the information below on the military postal service website regarding packages.  I also read a little bit about size and weight of packages.  If at all possible, I would use the the flat rate FPO boxes supplied by the post office.

Q: What is the difference between Priority

and Parcel Post articles mailed to Military Post

Offices (MPO)?

A: In most cases Parcel Post articles weighing

over 15 pounds or measuring over 60 inches, length

and girth combined, will travel by ship from the

U.S. gateway to the military address. Priority Mail

receives air transportation from the U.S. gateway to

the location of the military address overseas.

Hi everyone. I am still in NJ visiting our daughter & the family. This is the first time I have had a chance to be on the computer. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I wish you all luck with the mailing of your packages. I am sure the mail with the subs are different then the ships mail when they are out. Everytime the sub made port, their mail was delivered to them. But it was very tricky, b/c there were sometimes when they wouldn't make port for weeks, so if a holiday or their birthday fell in between, they wouldn't get it until after.  :(  The timing of it all is not an "easy" task.  I am one of the lucky & blessed parents this year, both of our sons are not deployed at the moment. But my heart goes out to all who are! <3    We will be home next weekend, so I will catch up to All later.

He's stationed in Naples, Italy, so not on a ship.  I'm going to try to get his box out by Dec. 1 so that he receives it by Christmas.  We're waiting on something to come in from the motorcycle shop or I would send it tomorrow.  I have sent stuff by freight before and it will take 6-8 weeks for him to get it.  That's why I always send priority.  Ugh!

vickimed - How awful!  I will keep my fingers crossed he gets them all at once!

Pam my son has an APO AP address. I mailed package first of Oct and he has not received it yet. Mailed Christmas Nov 14th Priority not yet also. Alot of families of ship site have said the same thing. It seems that in my case they are not getting mail and packages until they are at certain ports.
