He has definitely been doing his homework on researching cars and insurance rates. : )  we just were not sure how it worked as far as residency.  hopefully he can find something that suits him : )

Thanks for the info!  : )  Our state's rates for auto ins are horrible, but we do have sales tax also.  I will give our DMV a buzz and check into it though.  Thanks again : )

Good morning GA Mamas!  i have a question and i am hoping that one of you may have an answer.  my son has an out of state drivers license from home.  now that he is settled in on base, he wants to get a car.  does he have to be living in GA for a certain period of time before he can get a GA license or does being in the Navy and living on the base offer some type of waiver on that?  Will he be able to buy, register and insure a car in GA with an out of state license? Any info would be greatly appreciated.  For a younger driver, the cost of insurance and purchasing a car will be quite the $$ expense for him, so i would like to make sure that he knows all he needs to know.  Thanks!!  : )

Hi Mary, I've from Chris 3 times in the last 4 weeks. He say's he's keeping very busy. Besides flying, he is also now a Landing Signal Officer (helps guide the jets in landing on the carrier, as well as now a division leader of 24 fresh out of high school sailors! He loves flying, but says that the night landings still scare him. He says his legs still shake when he gets out of the jet after landing. So I'm busy now on the USS RR group and shopping for all the things he wants us to send him. Good coffee beans is his latest request.

Hi Andra...heard you asking about subs. There are 8 subs at Kings bay (USS Florida, Georgia, Alaska, Tennessee, West VA., Maryland, Rhode Island and Wyoming. About 20 sailors with their CO came up from the USS Georgia for Navy Week here in Atlanta in October. They came up under the sponsorship of the Atlanta Chapter of the Navy League of the US (NLUS)...a citizen group interested in support the 4 water groups (Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines). The NLUS has in the past had sub COs come to Atlanta from Kings Bay to talk at their dinner meetings and they usually plan one trip a year for NLUS members to Kings Bay with a tour of a sub.

Y'all have a great day!

Aw thanks Mary!!  I would love that.  There are so many great people on our groups! And yes, I am very proud...but just a typical Mama...worried and nervous accompany the pride too!  It is definitely a lesson in cutting the apron strings for me : )

How proud you must be of your two sailors CC0727.  You will have to let us know when you do those road trips, perhaps we can get together.

Good morning ladies.  My Sailor has started to get settled in to his first duty station with you all in GA.  He is definitely loving the weather (as opposed to the cold and snow we had last week at home!).  My other Sailor will be going to SC this week to his first duty station, so I am very happy that they will not be all that far from each other.  For the Mama this will mean a summer ROAD TRIP!! I am glad that they are both in areas so full of hospitality!  : )

KDB and Life is Peachy...lots of folks enjoy working with the Blue Star Moms groups and Operation Homefront.  You can google both organizations and see if they have a local office in your area.  Both are great groups.
