Congratulations Mary on your son's achievement!!! That's wonderful, and I know you're so proud.   We actually live in Alabama, and the nearest recruiter is in Columbus, GA.  She actually went to MEPS in Montgomery, AL.  Yep, it's a roller coaster all right!!!  We just got her 1st official form letter this week.  She's on Ship 7, DIV 105.  Of course it was sad - she want to come home, and asked for help.... not much I can do - this was her choice....  All this is new to me - I'm learning.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Mary! Thanks for the info.  It is my son's first command. I don't really know much about the area so I thought I could get some insight from the group.  How is the area around the base? Do they have on base housing or do they live in area apartments there?

CCO - Welcome and we have both here.  Many families stop in when their sailors are going to Kings Bay and we have families members that live in that area as well as the rest of the state here.

What state do you live in?  Is this your son's first command?

Hi!  I am not new to N4M and also am not from Georgia...but...my son is going to be stationed in King's Bay.  Is this group just for moms that are from Georgia or for moms with Sailors there too?  Just want to make sure I am at the right spot : )

Welcome to the Navy Ash's Mom!  The first couple of weeks are pretty hard, but Mary's right, once the letter's start coming in it gets a little easier.  That eights weeks is definately a roller coaster ride.  My son, Jamie, left last April and is now at his duty station in Italy.  He's having the time of his life and seeing a part of the world he probably never imagined he'd ever see!

Have you joined the bootcamp group yet?  That's where you will find a lot of the support your going to need.

Welcome Ash's mom, I have a daughter named Ash(leigh) as well.  Is the closest MEPS to Columbus in Alabama?   First time I seen a GA family leave from there.

What rate is she heading into?  You have to be strong those first couple of weeks until her letters start to arrive and then it does get easier.

Seriously?????  Snow again this week?   Yikes!

Brag moment:  Heard from our wonderful sailor, he was surprised with a NAM yesterday.  NAM = Navy achievement medal    He's having a really good Navy year.

Hi all, looks quiet in GA!
Sadly we have to pack today and are heading back home in the morning, so hate leaving our granddaughter.

I'm back to work today!!  And I have to tell you I am stunned at how bad Atlanta still is.  Side streets are so bad!  But on the bright side, temps are warming up this weekend!  Heat wave and come on Spring!

Understand Cobb schools are STILL closed today...wow, bet Spring break/summer vacation gets turn upside down by this one!

It's negative 6 degree in upstate NY   :-<    So glad we don't need to go out today!
