Some great information about base housing and Kings Bay, thanks for sharing.

Our son is in the process of looking for housing in Hawaii now, wish base housing was an option for him but he's a single guy so apartment life it will be.  They pay crazy money for BAH there, he will get $1818 per month but the rents are quite crazy there as well!

Sam... Kingsland is a very nice area... along with St. Marys ... My son in law is stationed Mayport, first time they built a house in kingsland (yes it was a long commute) it was worth it... its less than an hour to Jacksonville fla.... ..they sold house when transferred to hawaii.... now back at mayport but bought house in Jacksonville with 10 min of base..

Ya will enjoy Kingsland tho...you have Jekyll island to the north and amelia island/ fernandina Beach to the south for the Beach time...

Sam we live here at Kings Bay,GA.Housing is ok here. They have some new housing but you probably won't get it.There are lots of apartments and house to rent here.If you looking for houses not on base look in the St. Marys and Kingsland areas.Base housing is good for those just startng out in the military and don't make much money.BAH is pretty good for here. Our BAH covers our house, power and water and trash.I am a wife and mom of navy peps. You can view the tribune-georgian newspaper can be viewed online to see the rental properties in this area.Base housing can be drama filled and noisey wives with nothing else better to do but be in your business.

Oh ok, thank you though! Yes, we're headed to King's Bay

Hey Sam, we welcome all Navy families here - especially wives!  Are you heading to Kings Bay?  Seeing Groton in your address I suspect that you might be.  Unfortunately that is about 5 or 6 hours away from me so I don't have alot of information on base housing but perhaps you can call/email and see what kind of what they have.

Some other areas around the base would be Brunswick and St. Marys.

Hopefully we have someone in the S. GA area that can offer some good suggestions.

Hello there!

Sorry - I'm a wife, not a Momma! "/

But I was wondering if anyone knew about base housing in GA??

My hubby & I should be moving there this month, if there's no waiting, etc.

I have heard base housing isn't the way to go - but I'd also like to hear other opinions :)

Thank you,

Sam

Hello ladies, hope everyone is settling back into the New Years groove and it sounds like none of us will be out spending our Mega Millions $$$ anytime soon.

We have a lot of new members to the group that I want to welcome, many of them have been posting their location in the thread above and it just caught my eye today.   So Welcome to our new members!

Jean, I know you must be enjoying having your son home.  Don't forget to send him back!

I will be heading to NY on Saturday to meet my sweet granddaughter.  Skype-ing is great but not the same as hugging that baby!
