Okay, so this is a sort of bizarre question/problem. My husband is expected to graduate from BC on July 1st. Then, he reports to A school in Pensacola, Florida. Florida is where both my husband and I grew up, we have lived there since we were born. I am currently residing in Pennsylvania. His A school is only fourteen weeks long, and he wants me to visit as much as possible once he is rewarded time.

Would I be better off staying in a hotel down in Pensacola for the 14 weeks and work? Then to have to fly back and forth? We are married, so it would be easier to bring all of my stuff down, so that when we get his orders, we aren't in two seperate places.

Please let me know what you all think(:

I told my sister in law to get on and talk to you. She just went through the same thing :)
Thank you(:

What is he going to school for? Does he know his dates for certain? My hubby is going for AE and his orders say he will graduate from Aschool July 13th... in reality he wont have even started classes yet because they are on hold!

Also since you are married you can stay at the Navy GateWay Inn when you visit. Its really cheap, however they told me that you cant stay longer than 6days at a time.

Since his Aschool is so short the Navy is not going to pay to move you down to Pensacola, but once he gets his PCS orders they would pay for you to move with him.

Its going to take 2weeks for him to be able to phase up, and be able to actually leave the base and wear civies. In phase2 hell be able to leave the base during the week till a certain time, and weekends till a certain time with a liberty buddy. He can however put in a chit to get phase3 liberty to stay with you when you visit. Im not sure how long it takes to phase up to phase 3, where you can stay gone all weekend.

If you do move down there he can become a brown bagger, and live with you. Hell get to come home when libertys called but when its his duty day he might not get to, every so often it might be on dog duty and have to stay gone all weekend. You have to have an address and lease agreement to turn in to get this

I am moving there in a week on our dime...

He is going to A school for IT. As of right now, I don't know what his dates are because he hasn't even graduated yet. I do know that when he actually gets his duty station orders the Navy will pay for me. I just would rather move down there and stay in a hotel because I know that no apartment would allow me to stay for a fourteen week time frame. Is that silly of me?

Have you searched for an extended stay option?  Some furnished places rent by the week.  I don't know how many are in P-cola, but I'm assuming there would be a few, like any other city.

And yes, no matter what the orders say the length of the school is, expect the actual timing to be longer.

Why expect the length of time to be longer?
There are often holds for various reasons. Class may start later than expected due to waiting for the classes to fill up. It's always about the needs of the Navy. Hold times can vary greatly, so it's difficult to estimate an exact date for school completion!
How many students per class do they need?
Varies with every A school....

There can be other delays too, anything from lack of instructors to a building having problems, holidays, and more.  They may have to wait for orders after the school is finished, ,which happens a lot for C school.  Some may have to wait for their security clearances.  Many, many reasons.

You must be flexible and go with the flow.  Sometimes there are no concrete answers, just suggested timelines and guidelines.  This will be part of your Navy experience from start to finish, learn to deal with it or you will be profoundly unhappy as a Navy wife.

Like I said My husbands orders say he should graduate july 13th..... yet there is a 3month wait for him to even start his first class!!

and for IT he could be held up waiting for security clearance too... lots of things could affect the lenght he is in Pensacola.

Then, I am definitely moving to Pensacola when he gets there. I don't care if it's months, I will see him.
