When my husband was phase 2 at great lakes he just had a close friend be his liberty buddy. I have heard of a special request chit he can file to have you as his liberty buddy. So he could definitely look into that!
I wrote this on the other discussion but will post it here for you too :) My husband and I got married after A school so I was not on his orders. If you want/have to be on his orders then make sure to get married before his orders drop. At least 3 or 4 weeks before his orders go through would be ideal. It wasn't as big of a deal for me that I wasn't on his orders because I was already living where he was going to A school, and we just drove to his next duty station. But if you aren't on his orders the move would be on your dime which isn't practical :/ If you can do it and make it happen without stressing I would definitely do it before. Being a spouse gives you a lot of "protection" from moving and the constant unknown with the Navy. Hope that helps!
No problem!! My husband and I had also been together for 3 years while he was at bootcamp. So it sounds like we have a lot in common :) Please friend and message me with any and all questions you have and I will try to help you the best I can!!
My sailor and I are going through the same thing. We plan on getting married June 4th up at Great Lakes (close by anyway). Here is what you need to do:
1. He has to talk to his CO about getting a marriage request. They will print it off, he fills it out. It's just a "request". They cannot deny him getting married.
2. He will have to go to a "marriage" class, which is on Tuesdays. He will have to tell his instructor that he is going to the class as it occurs during class hours.
3. Once he's done the class, he turns the paperwork back in.
4. He fills out a special request chit about a week before for you to be his liberty buddy the weekend you get married.
Hope this helps!
Not exactly. That's where the special request chit comes in. It voids the normal procedure, in this case having to have liberty buddies. And yes phase 1 is treated very differently than phase 2. I have never heard of having to have 4 liberty buddies, every command I've experienced and heard about has only been one other liberty buddy. A schools can have varying rules as well, so your husband's school may be very different than others, especially since his is so short. Either way, it should be possible for them to go off base with her as his libo buddy and get married as long as they get approval :)
