Hi guys! I really needed somebody to help me regarding details on getting married during A school. My sailor will be on Phase 2 nextweek. He stays in Great Lakes for A school. We are planning on getting married before he gets his next orders so that I will be included in it. Moving on my own hurts my pocket and I dont think it's a practical choice. I say that because I have heard/ read that if you will be married after he gets his orders, it will be hard for you to move with him wherever he gets stationed. Whereas if you get married before even receiving his orders, you can be added in it and moving with him will be much more easier. Any advice/ recommendations from you guys?

How many weeks does he have left in A school because there is a good chance his orders are in he just has not gotten them yet. It needs to be done asap as it can take up to 6 weeks to get you on the orders as my husband has a bunk mate is going through that right now at GL
He has I think 14 weeks more in A school. We are planning on it. The first thing he has to do is to update his paperworks and put me in as his fiancée and get advices from the counselor and go from there. I am just a bit stressed thinking about the add up tasks my sailor would do besides studying in school. He said he needs to get 3 bravo zulu to be able to go outside the base on weekends with me unless he has a buddy willing to go out with him. Do you know what's a request chit? I've read my sailor needs it too.

When my husband was phase 2 at great lakes he just had a close friend be his liberty buddy. I have heard of a special request chit he can file to have you as his liberty buddy. So he could definitely look into that!

I wrote this on the other discussion but will post it here for you too :) My husband and I got married after A school so I was not on his orders. If you want/have to be on his orders then make sure to get married before his orders drop. At least 3 or 4 weeks before his orders go through would be ideal. It wasn't as big of a deal for me that I wasn't on his orders because I was already living where he was going to A school, and we just drove to his next duty station. But if you aren't on his orders the move would be on your dime which isn't practical :/ If you can do it and make it happen without stressing I would definitely do it before. Being a spouse gives you a lot of "protection" from moving and the constant unknown with the Navy. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much Bronco14! It helps a lot! :) Hopung to get more advices from you soon..

No problem!! My husband and I had also been together for 3 years while he was at bootcamp. So it sounds like we have a lot in common :) Please friend and message me with any and all questions you have and I will try to help you the best I can!!

As a fiancé you really have no more rights then a girlfriend/boyfriend. Being married is the only right of anything. Protect yourself and get married. Don't wait. If you love each other and I am assuming you did not meet him a few weeks or days ago. Do it to protect youself and him. You really from what I have been told you get zero benefits from being a finacé with him
We've been dating for 3 years ;) Thanks Michael for advices!
I assumed you have been together sometime. All I say is protect your relationship sooner the better for both of you. You will get so many benifits and protections it will also changed his BAH and give you more
Money to live on

My sailor and I are going through the same thing.  We plan on getting married June 4th up at Great Lakes (close by anyway).  Here is what you need to do:

1. He has to talk to his CO about getting a marriage request.  They will print it off, he fills it out.  It's just a "request".  They cannot deny him getting married.

2. He will have to go to a "marriage" class, which is on Tuesdays.  He will have to tell his instructor that he is going to the class as it occurs during class hours.

3. Once he's done the class, he turns the paperwork back in.

4. He fills out a special request chit about a week before for you to be his liberty buddy the weekend you get married.

Hope this helps!

You got that all right except the last one. Only reason is this. My husband is at GL now and he's not allowed off base unless all 4 of his buddies are allowed to go with him. Now that is something I never heard of and don't know if it's new. But if he wants to go off base even with me his spouse his buddies must go with us. Now you might be able to with a chit. I did not understand and neither did he as he has done nothing wrong. The only thing I can think of he will never be in a phase 2 while at GL as his A school is only 5 weeks long and will stay in phase 1. That's the only thing I can come up with.

Not exactly. That's where the special request chit comes in. It voids the normal procedure, in this case having to have liberty buddies. And yes phase 1 is treated very differently than phase 2. I have never heard of having to have 4 liberty buddies, every command I've experienced and heard about has only been one other liberty buddy. A schools can have varying rules as well, so your husband's school may be very different than others, especially since his is so short. Either way, it should be possible for them to go off base with her as his libo buddy and get married as long as they get approval :)
