Hi all,

I'm looking to move down to King's Bay in January with my sailor.  I have a few questions though and was wondering if anyone could help.

1)  My sailor will be able to get BHA to move off base by then.  Will we be able to live together or does the BAH only count if they are living on their own and/or unmarried?

2)  Is anyone living in King's Bay or were previously stationed there?  I'm trying to determine cost of living and all that.  Plus, I'll be there alone with no family, aside from the Navy family.  I'm hoping I can meet some people on here that are down that way so I won't be completely alone! :)

Any advice for a new Navy girlfriend who is looking to jump both feet into this whole new world would be much appreciated.  :)

Thanks,

Jamie

The BHA only counts if he is an E-5 or married for him to live off of base now as far as kings bay that is a beautiful place to live. I lived in Savannah which is like an hour away and the rent depending on what your looking for ranged from 600-1500 a month. But that is also Savannah which I also lived in the outskirts and we had a 2bd/2ba apartment with a garage and two dogs and our rent was 1000 a month so you just have to find a good place to live. Also try rent.com for down there and alot of the places will honor what is on there instead of what they are offering at the time because it can be higher. Also you are like an hour away from Jacksonvile which is fun in its self too. Just make sure you find a hobby which is super easy to find there with so many things going on. Hope you enjoy Georgia like I did I wish I could go back but given that my fiance is going to be stationed in Norfolk I am only 5 hours away so thats not bad at all.

If he is eligible for BAH, (E-5 or married), he can have as many roommates as he likes, the Navy won't check up on him.  If he has a spouse, he would be eligible for the with dependents rate.  It goes by zip code, paygrade, and marital status.

@ Anti M - Thanks for the link that is super helpful.

@ Rikki - You'll love Norfolk.  I lived there for a year  while in school. There are some lovely areas there.  I can give you tons of recommendations for food and entertainment too! lol

I hope the transition to GA will be smooth.  I still have a couple of months to get ready, but I have no idea what to expect.  This is a whole new world for me.  :)  Keep the advice coming ladies!
