Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hey ladies. Making another discussion because I have yet another question (go figure.) So my husband will be done with deployment in just a couple of months. We have an apartment we like (based on looking at it online together) and want to try and get. Anyway this is a total rookie question but how do you go about getting an apartment when you are many, many states away? What steps do I need to take etc.? Thanks in advance for any help!

You can do all the paper work on line, or via email, scanning, and or faxing with the apartment complex..BUT I would never do that, as you are going into a contract sight unseen.

Yeah, if you are truly interested you can just call or email the apartment from their contact info off the website & they are able to send you all the documents. My husband and I did that with our first apartment since we were moving from FL to CA-but I had flown out to CA and seen it in person first. Like Angie said I really wouldn't recommend signing a lease without seeing the apartment & grounds in person first. It's REALLY risky. I can't even tell you how many apartments I looked at online & fell in love with online & then got there to see in person & realized they were not how they seemed online. They will ALWAYS put the best photos online, sometimes even outdated. Also, have you checked google & yelp for reviews from current/former residents? My husband is currently deployed as well & when he comes home we are moving duty stations. So I am doing some research now to find places to look at but when I fly out there for his homecoming I'm taking a few days to see the places in person before signing a lease. Is there any way you guys would be able to do that?

It's exactly the same process as doing it in person, only you will have to do it over email instead of in person. Start off by emailing the landlord or company and explain to them the situation. They will probably have prior experience doing this, especially if they commonly have military residents. My landlord and I passed documents back and forth over email by scanning things and emailing them, printing them off and filling them out, scanning and sending back, etc. I only did this once I was 100% comfortable though. I had them take pictures of the exact unit to send to me and I had many, many recommendations from other wives. I never would have done it without those recommendations. I would not sign the lease before arriving, if possible. We paid the deposit and such months before arriving, but we didn't sign the lease/contract until we had toured the apartment. We could have backed out -but lost the deposit- if we had changed our minds upon arriving and seeing the place.
