So me and my husband are searching for housing, cheap but still nice. We are trying to conserve his BAH and our money as much as possible, so staying in military housing is out of the question, being so expensive. We have found lots of places for about 900-1100. Which is perfect! But there so many and so many different areas of san diego (chula vista, national city, imperial beach etc)

Have any of you lived off base in that area? Heard good things? Tips for making the most out of your BAH?

I'm just so overwhelmed searching for housing! Especially not being there in person to see the places, only my husband is there until I move Dec 1!

Thanks!

Hi krista, I recently moved to San Diego. We found a nice apartment (1 bed and bath) in Chula vista, the rent is $1050 not bad at all. This area is safe and is close to many stores and expressways, we are literally 15 minutes away from the base, which is perfect for our sailors :). When I first started looking for a place I was overwhelmed too, I remember I was told by other navy girlfriends that national city is close but a getto area, I drove by there and is true, lots of homeless walking around during the day. Imperial beach is close to the border with Tijuana, I'm from south America and I have heard there is always trouble near those borders, so that area was a no no to me.

Thanks for heads up! What's the name of those apartments?(:

Avoid National City.

Both Chula Vista and Imperial Beach are nice, but IB gets a lot of tourist traffic.

I was born and raised in San Diego. East Chula Vista I would say is the best option. Stay out of national city & I personally think imperial beach can be somewhat sketchy. I work for San Diego pd & all I can say is STAY out of southeast sandiego . I wouldn't recommend ANYONE live there . That will be the area on the map north of 54, south of the 94 , west of the 125 & east of the 805. Just stay out, it is GHETTO.

the complex is called: Seawind apartments, chula vista, ca 91911
