My fiance left February 2nd for basic. He's supposed to be in the 900 division and is going to be an MU when he gets out.  We are supposed to be getting married May 19, 2012. This whole process is very new and foreign to me. I am trying to make the best of it - but between him being gone, finishing up law school and not knowing where my life is headed - it's hard to cope.

Sesalle,

Thank you. Jason plays trumpet - he can do vocal stuff, but doesn't like to.  I will not be in Virginia Beach - I will be in Michigan studying for the bar exam in july - I plan on joining Jason after A-school at our first base placed.  Congrats on the Master's as well!

We have been planning our wedding for over a year. Everyone we talk to doesn't seem to think it's a problem.  I will not be moving out to Virginia beach with him because I will be studying to take the bar in Michigan and will join him after A-school.

May 19th is a very specific date.  Are you planning on him coming home for it?  Because there are obstacles to that plan.

I strongly suggest you ask about the leave and liberty policies for MU A school student sailors.  If it is like every other Navy A school, he won't be granted leave during training, and he cannot go "out of bounds" (usually 300 miles) without very specific permission. No flying home over the weekend, it is not allowed anywhere else, so I'd bet MU school won't be different.

There is contact information at the bottom, you can ask about liberty policies.  Couldn't hurt to find out if they require a special request chit prior to marrying.  Most school commands do (they don't turn them down, but they may have requirements).

Yes - We have contracts signed - hall booked, vendors booked, everything quite literally done before we he went in. He assured me he talked to several people who said it shouldn't be a problem. We just need to come home for that weekend and when right back to finish.  I've read that they can grant a 3-day leave and from what I hear the music school is a little more flexible. All of this was set before he even enlisted and I wouldn't have done any of this for this time had I thought it would be a problem. Of course now that he's in basic and I can't talk to him - I am freaking out. I don't know who to talk to or if there is anything I can do but wait.

I hope it does work out, and yes, I'd believe MU would be more flexible.  Freaking out is normal.

I found the school's FB page... you should join it and get a feel for the school and how things go.  Who knows, you might get the Command on your side.

Thank you so much!

Oh, and I forgot... congratulations!

To him too, getting MU is hard to do, they are the BEST.

Yes! Thank you! I am very proud of him. I know how hard he works. We have been together for 9 years - high school sweethearts. He's my everything.
