Hi Ladies, my love just left for bootcamp on the 18th of June.
Won't get to hear from him for another 2 weeks from what he said. I miss him so much, we new it was gonna be hard, literally, half of me is gone. Any of you also have anybody up there right now?
Hey girlies, My husband is begging me to let him join the navy and Im not to sure how I feel about it or even know about it. Im wondering how there wives feel about it. Is it worth it? whats the life style like? Did you make new friends? I want to know the good and the bad..
Hey Grace,
You should be getting his box in two weeks via fedEx and your first letter in 3 weeks (BE PATIENT girl cause it was so hard for me). Hubby graduated two months ago so I still get emotional thinking about when he left. You can message me if you wanna chat :)
I know there are nuke wives who check in here, so be patient. When they first arrive at school, they are in phase one of liberty and not allowed to leave base. This lasts about two weeks. What I don't know is if nuke school makes exceptions for those who are married or are getting married. Nuke school often is different from any other training command. Have a "Plan B" in place in case they make him wait.
Hi guys, Im new to this website. My fiancé just left for boot camp two days ago and I really wasn't expecting it to hit me this hard. I really hope it gets better soon. Does anyone know about when we receive our first letters? We are also planning on getting married on the first or second weekend after boot camp when he gets to Charleston, he will be in Nuke school and I was wondering if anyone knows if we will have time to get married then? Also, about how long will it take for the paperwork to go through for me to move up there? I would really appreciate it if someone could answer these questions, thanks so much.
@MoNavyGf- I saw that you were having issues with your SR. One thing that has helped my hubs and me in the past is to talk in 'I' statements. It keeps defenses down and so there is more room for talking things out and less anger/guards up. Instead of saying "You are so rude when you talk to me now" (just an example) you could say "I don't feel loved or respected when you talk to me that way". It really does work but it takes a lot of self control not to point a finger. My husband shuts down if he even senses that I am attacking him so I have had to learn how to change the way I say things. I hope that helps with the defenses going up! It will work out, I'm sure. Patience, love and forgiveness make relationships last. I'm here if you ever want to talk =)
Lizziebear & RachaelJay... Thank you ladies so much. I know it isn't his fault, they're definitely trained to have no emotions for several reasons, but he's coming home soon and I just can't seem to come up with a way to bring it up without coming off like I'm attacking or overreacting, how did you ladies bring it up? Mine was a bit harsh when I brought it up over the phone and told him he never talked to me like that before, but his response definitely proved he has no clue he's changed like that, so of course I didn't want to end the phone call in an argument, I just left it alone.. but it hasn't left my mind that we need to talk about it at something! Just don't know how or when, but that's of course on me, you've already helped so much! So again, thank you ladies, that helped so much & I'm happy you fixed it with your men. God bless you and them!
I strongly second what beachmom76 said about the journals. My husband isn't even on a sub, his first deployment, he was on an LCU and we were able to email a few times a week. But we both still kept journals and it was really great to see his day to day life. Even if he only wrote a line or two because he wasn't getting sleep, he still took the time to do it. And I was able to document all the little things we did day to day that weren't really worthy of an email, but still kept him in the loop about the kids. I recommend composition notebooks for this. Just my 2 cents!
@Deansgirl, this is not unusual. Sounds like he is on a fast attack boat, since boomer crews are usually only gone three months at a time. Depending on the boat's mission, they may only surface infrequently, they have to deliver all message traffic during the brief time the antennae is extended and the messages are prioritized. Personal stuff is at the bottom of the list. When hubby was on fast attacks, we would often go six months with no contact. We learned to keep journals to write what was going on every day, then we exchanged them when he came home. Hang in there, it is frustrating, but you are not alone.
