@Jenn... here is the instruction:
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/100...
Yeah, he can't take it until the baby is born, but he can split it and combine it with regular leave days. His chief seems to be unfamiliar with the instruction. (cough cough).
Hi-- I am new here, my bf is in bootcamp currently and is on a seal contract. I know once he finishes bootcamp, then he will begin Buds Prep for 8 weeks in Illinois. However, how everything else pans out after that seems to be up for discussion. Neither of us know what to expect exactly and ultimately it would be nice to have a friend or meet someone who has gone through this.....Anyone here happen to have gone through this process with their significant other? I would love to glean from you in any way.... I have a few questions! Thanks again!!!
Anti M - Do you know where my husband can find the instruction for paternity leave that allows him to split it? I'm due July 1 and he leaves for training on the other coast July 4 (or the 6th or the 7th, they aren't really sure). His chief has told him that he can't start leave until the baby is born, but he has to "use it or lose it". Since this training is required he can't skip it, his whole det is going and he's the cheng. My first 2 babies were early, one by 8 weeks and one by about 10 days, so I figure this one might be a bit early too. It sure would be nice for him to be able to take the days he can before he leaves, then have some left after. I'm the ombudsman, so I chat with the CMC and occasionally the XO if I run into her, but I don't want to jump his chain or actually get involved at all. He can only find an instruction that briefly describes paternity leave, but doesn't say if it can be broken up, although it doesn't say it can't, either. Thanks!!
Hi everyone! I'm new to the group. My fiance is on his first deployment, so I thought this would be a great time to join. I've been getting emails daily, so I'm super lucky. Anyways, I'm excited to get to know other women/men in my same situation...none of my friends have a military partner, especially since I'm from a pretty alternative group of people. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great day!
Paternity leave is an additional ten days of leave in addition to the 30 days they earn. It can be split up, so if your sailor has his earned leave on the books, he could take some of his leave and some of the paternity leave, then do it again later in the year. Always up to the command as to whether they can let him take the time off, of course.
a.foertsch yes if he doesn't take leave it all adds up, each year they get i believe 30 days off and his additional days he has "saved" will be added on, my SN says no more than 60 days total can we have leave.
Not sure if that's true for everyone of course but that's what he was told when we were talking about marriage and the whole works haha
You are correct, they have up to one year to use the paternity leave. It is up to the command when to let them take it, and it can be combined with their earned leave. Each A school will be different about how and when they take it.
@a.foertsch because you are right there, have him talk to his school and chief about how the most efficient way to contact him will be. While you cannot call him directly, if they know you will be calling, they can pull him out of class. Usually they have families of their own and are quite willing to help.
