OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

MM

My son is going to Sub School next month as an MM.

Can anyone tell me when they designate WEP or AUX?

How long is the schooling for each?

I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between the two.

Not sure specifically since my husband is SECF/FT, but if they do it the same way for MM, then they probably get their specific rates about halfway through Sub School. My husband's class was about 3 weeks in when they got theirs. Hopefully someone else here will be able to answer specific MM questions. :)

I don't know if this helps but my son picked his rate last week,and PIR was 3/4/11,he left for Groton 3/5/11,so that was pretty fast I guess,about two weeks in. He mentioned something that he was indoc(don't know what that means)and still had BESS which would be another six weeks,then he would do his A-school and wait to see if he had any further schooling,as he wasn't sure. My son also is MMS and decided to go AUX(engineering) he said it would be more interesting to him. Hope this helped some.

I think your son meant waiting for the school to fill up enough to start a new class. I don't know the term either??

Your son got to pick his rate in Boot Camp? My son asked about it and they said no. I've read conflicting articles about how long any of the schooling is, even BESS???

Oh no,my son picked it in Groton. He has already started his basic sub school(BESS)classes,they are 6weeks,and then there A-school depends on what they will need to learn for the rate they are assigned,and I beleive how long that last,may depend on the individual,some may need a little more time than others I'm assuming. In total,for Bess and A-school,I beleive he said a total of about 5 mos..

My son was a DEP,and at MEPS,he volunteered for sub-duty, and picked the job of MMS,weapons specialist. The only the he changed is he decided to go AUX instead of Weapons,and he made that change after arriving in Groton. They do have the oppurtunity to speak with someone during bootcamp,from what I understand,if they are wanting to have an entirely different job change,as this was something my son was considering,but opted to stay on the sub as MMS. I do hope I haven't confused you more.
