carebear--yes,,,8/9 months sounds right. My son informed me that they MAY be adding more schooling/training up there for these guys. He said they were informed that they may have to do up to an additional 9 months of training..YIKES!!!...lol I said .."well at least youre getting paid to go to school"...lol

I always knew that Submariners had an important job, but after hearing the speeches at BESS graduation, i realized how elite their job really is. Its amazing. i have a whole knew appreciation for my sons decision, and i couldnt be more proud. So it doesnt surprise me if they do end up having more to teach them. Im sure that changes are being made every day and they need to keep up.

cjasmin--im not sure what he meant by getting orders. I now that sometimes the word "orders" means that they will tell him what his next step is. Please keep us posted, as i would like to know also...it could mean about his Aschool.

haha! the Navy term for 'job' is..'rate'...   My sons rate is ET. And dont quote me on the 9 months of extra schooling,,,thats just the word on the street...LOL! He said they had mentioned it and nothing is in stone yet. Im going to ask him if that means they will be in the Navy for almost 6 years, of it the schooling (if they are doing that) is included in the 5 years that they originally enlisted for???   Uhhggg..too much to think about..lol!
Hello, my name is Cyndi.  My brother just started BESS (I imagine at this point he is still being processed/briefed) he arrived Saturday 4/9 after graduating bootcamp 4/8.  I am trying to educate myself because I know very little about all this.  So far just reading everyone's posts has been very helpful!
Proud Navy Sis...did you change your photo?  I am thinking that you suggested the Homewood Suites to me (PIR 4/8)...it was GREAT!!  Our Sailor also left to Groton on Sat...maybe we saw you at the airport and didnt know it.  Good luck to us (and the boys) as we start this next adventure!! (I, like you, have no answers...just lots of questions).

Yes, I did change my photo!  We were at Homewood Suites too this past weekend!  I bet we did see each other at the airport, we were there from about 2:30 am till the flight left!  I live in Connecticut, if your sailor ever needs anything let me know.  I do plan on going there every weekend (as long my brother's schedule allows).

Funny.  Yep, we got to the airport at 1:30..and stayed till they boarded the plane...then went back to Homewood and slept until 3PM!  I got a few photos of the boys right before they got on the plane...did you get that photo?  i know 32 of them were on the plane, but I am missing about 10 from the photo!

Maybe you will meet our son!  Tall and funny (handsome too!) 19yr old.  I feel better already...knowing there is a sister around.

My husband has just been in Groton a week.  I'm pretty sure he's in BESS right now.  I don't know really anything about it and am wondering how soon our son and I can move to Groton we know we'll be in Groton about a year for his schooling/training.  He just graduated boot camp last week.
