Has anyone stayed at the Groton Inn and Suites?  What are some of the other hotels closest to the base?  We are coming to our son's homecoming, but not sure where to stay?  He will not be here to make reservations for us.  We pulled our camper up last summer and stayed at a campground in Mystic, but are flying up this time and renting a car.  Did not anticipate coming back up there so did not pay attention to what is closest.  Appreciate any input - even if you have not stayed in the hotels, would someone up there let me know what's in the general area?  Thanks.

oh man, i have NO idea. i stayed in the Gateway :(

sorry i couldn't be more help!!

Hi I have stayed at the Navy lodge and Navy Gateway. Navy Lodge 2 months ago and Navy Gateway a couple weeks ago.
Each room has a little kitchen area which includes microwave, fridge, freezer, sink, cabinets and etc. Both hotels are clean and nice! The differences in the gateway and lodge for a normal room, You pay 56 a night at gateway(one queen bed), you pay 74.50 a night at navy lodge(one queen bed) the Lodge has the same room but has a kitchen table and a stovetop. There might be normal rooms with a stovetop at gateway just the one I stayed in at this Gateway did not. I would def stay there again though. Either place you stay gateway or lodge is definately worth way more than what you pay :) I would definately stay at both of them again!  I know someone else that stayed and got a good rate at Groton Inn and Suites (Elisabeth) she suggested it to me. Hope it helps! :)
I just got back from groton, today, We stayed at the Best Western on Route 12, there is also, a Super 8, it takes 3-5 minutes from any one of the places I have mentioned as well, as the Navy Lodge and Getaway Suites,  Check each of these places websites, to decide what your looking for some have pools, gyms etc, on site restarants.  But Route 12 is where you want to be located on.  Hope this helps.
Just came back from visit my son and I stay in Navy Lodge.  This is my second time and I love it!!!  Easy check in (son have to be there),  excellent room service and the front desk very friendly.
I just got back from groton and stayed at the gateway. It was nice, but there is another hotel on base called Groton Charlet hotel. It over looks the river and is right by the movie theater subway and bowling alley. The lady told me its 84 a night but it looks nice, and its real close to the guys barracks. Hope that helps :) try to see if they have website, I should of asked them but was not thinking about it.
Is the Gateway on base? I'm planning on staying there in September, but I don't have a military ID yet to get on and off base.

Gateway is ON base. I'm not 100%, but way I understood was only military active-duty and dependents could stay there. But I have heard of veterans staying at the on-base lodging. So maybe if your sailor just escorts you on base to loding? :/ Some things just get so confusing. For reservations at Gateway, it has to be under the sponsor's (sailor's) name, that much I do know. Same for Navy Lodge (which is off-base) and they have to check you in.

Why don't you have your military ID yet? I looked up the nearest DEERS office online and called to confirm where to go and when. They check all your papers, take your pic and hand you the card right then. Fairly quick and painless.

Closest extended stay hotel I can find online is way over in Meridian. :/  Best deals in Groton are Gateway (which has a little kitchen type area with sink and mini fridge, but no stove) and Navy Lodge (kitchenette with stove, fridge).  When I stayed at gateway it was like $58 a night I think? Which is cheaper than anything else in town (and no pricey hotel taxes to pay at either of these).
