Does anybody know if there are graduations on Thursday's? From A schoo
Hi NavyMum, my son’s PIR was Aug. 3rd. He’s in Groton awaiting start of BESS, in about a week, followed by A school in his rating, ITS.
SunflowerLynn: thanks much for the response. My son is going to CS school following Bootcamp. Which school is your son attending and when is his PIR?
NavyMum, for my son, BESS is before A school. Don’t know if he’ll have any leave between the two. My guess is it will depend on whether they’ve got enough sailors ready to start the A school, or have to wait to get enough to man the class.
Is there any Leave after A school but before Groton BESS?
Proud Mom, a dehumidifier is smart thinking. Gonna get on that quickly! Thank you.
My Sailor went back today to check on his room and the power is out still. He thinks it was briefly restored while he has been gone but regardless, isn’t lack of electricity a safety issue?
Ah well, we’ve done everything we can think of. I wish we luck bed closer to base. I would make sure he had at least a cool place to sleep.
I say to him that it’s times like these that test our resolve. It’s hard for me as his Ma to know he’s so miserable.
My son said he has a fan. But the humidity is really bad. I ordered him a Dehumidifier for like $45 on Amazon, for the room, hoping itll help a little better. You would think they would have everything working for them... unbelievable
Oh man. I’m so sorry for our sailors and the heat. 97 is more than 85 and then humidity. Ugh. I will be happy when my Sailor graduates in about a month and a half.
And still! I think this is ridiculous. No electricity AND no AC.
Sailor says he will talk to COC today. Hope he doesn’t get screamed at for it.
Hello Ladies,
It has been awhile since I last visited NavyForMoms. I am back with a question and conundrum of sorts for those Mamas with sailors at Groton.
My Sailor is in A school. He will finish up in September. He told me his entire A school was recently moved to a different housing (old) building He said he has been without AC for over 24 hours and that he didn’t sleep at all over the last 24 hours due to the miserable nature of 85 degrees in his room. (No roommate-which is usually a break I guess.) And now he has been without electricity for over 24 hours as well. He told his section leader and filled out the log book for service/maintenance. He has done very well during A school and now he’s closed to despondent after sweltering heat and humidity AND lack of sleep due to those conditions makes it harder to bear. So! We told him to talk to his chain of command and let them know. I suggested talking with the chaplain as well just for some support. He has friends that have offered to let him bunk in their quarters just so he can sleep He says he will do so tonight
It’s so bad for him in his room that we ended up getting a hotel room for him over the upcoming weekend so he can get some rest in a cooler environment. Outrageous $$ but it’s to help him escape from the heat.
We are desert folks by experience but man, NO AC and NO ELECTRICITY and NO SLEEP is never a good mix. Hydrating and showering in cool water and staying inside cooler buildings are our suggestions
Anyone have any other ideas? This just doesn’t seem right.
