PNM, the most likely plan would be to have your son meet you in the parking lot of the Submarine Force Museum , which is right by the main gate. If the weather is nice, there is a small park there with the sail of one of the old "41 for freedom" SSBNs that makes a good meeting place and photo spot. Do visit the museum while you are there!
Question about traveling to Groton with a dog (lab). Weather forecast is looking good - in the 60s. I'll be driving from Chicago and staying at dog friendly motels. Once I get into Groton, what do I need to know? Will my son have to meet me off base?

She is AMAZING!!!!
My son turns 21 on Friday, someone had posted earlier that there is a bakery that delivers on base, does anyone know who that is? I can't find the post
Mr Mom: Schooling will last aprox. 41 wks. or 9 mo.
BESS aprox. 10 sailors per class & aprox. 6 weeks. They have to get checked into the base. Then they are given an address. First they must familiar themselves with the base or qual's to do. This is the best time for your sailor to get their passport. If they have a roommate share internet with roommate until transferred, cheaper. Do not take cell phone to class it can get wet. Techno is the hardest class many fail and this will put sailor back, grades matter.
Welcome, Mr. Mom!
Give it a couple of weeks, and stay flexible. Now that your son is there, he will have to go through an indoc period then, when they get enough people, he will be assigned to a BESS class. He will have a class number, and can get some idea of a graduation date. We didn't go to the BESS graduation, so I don't recall the details. We did go to the SECF graduation and were able to make reservations a month or so in advance.
Hi my son just arrived at A school, does anyone have any tips or advice on shipping items to your sailor. He wants his TV, xbox ect trying to figure out if this is fesible
Congratulations Dee, How exciting! My son has been in Groton for just two weeks and starts school this week.
