Hi Ashley and welcome! Those going to Groton are training to be submariners. The submarine crew is a specialized group - every member has to know every job. There is 6 weeks of BESS - basic enlisted submarine school, then ATT, TCNO, and A school. Some do not ATT. Hope that helps.

Hello everyone. My SR has PIR 06/06. He's MMS. Prior to leaving for RTC he was told he'd be attending A School in about three different places, and then right before he left he was told Groton, Connecticut. He told me his schooling week be 30wks. Does that include BASS? And why is his schooling so much longer than others going for 6wks??

Welcome Pammy and Spunky!!  My son loves it in Groton-has been there since June 8th of last year and is in the final part of A school.  Groton is a very nice little town and I'm sure your boys will love it there too.  It's especially nice when others from their PIR group go there too.  Enjoy!!

Hi Everyone....my son graduated from Great Lakes Friday.  Up until the week before graduation, we thought he was going to Pensacola.  Surprised when we found out he was going to Groton, CT.  According to my son, he'll be there at least a year.  Looking forward in sharing this time with you.
