I like your idea Kathy about the bribe!! But when my son was out in an apartment on his own, he would only tell us what he thought we wanted to hear and hide the bad news.  You're right I was the same with my parents and would love to be able to call them sometime now that they are gone.

Diana he has to sign up for it at the Liberty Center on base dead line is 11/17/11.. But he has to make sure he doesn't have duty on Thanksgiving day..

I bribe my son.  Call me/text me more than once a week, and I'll send a subway or itunes gift card his way.  When he is hungry, he calls a lot!  :-)  I think the boys are the worst.  They are such boogers sometimes.  But - I didn't call my parents every day once I started working either.  I was an awful daughter and would schedule Monday night calls so it wouldn't interrupt my fun weekends.  Now that they are gone, I sure wish I had done that differently, but it also makes me understand that my kids are doing what makes them happy.  They always call when something is wrong, so I continue with the axiom of "no news is good news."

M son is the same.  I was thinking about him and mising him last night and just texted "how is everything" ( another Mom had suggested that).  He got right back to me with "great, just got off duty".  Then got another text that he will be finished with ATTnext week and we can pick him up the 23rd for Thanksgiving, but said he had to muster for some cleaning schedule.  This was unusual and I was happy to get a reply from him.  I think they are kept busy and I know if he has time he would rather talk with with his friends!  I just worry when it goes over a week and we don't hear from him, I start thinking that something is wrong.

My son was the same way!  He called two days after he got there, actually the day after and I missed his call.  Then it was over a week before I got the next call.  I called, texted and then finally posted on his Facebook "Call your mom, I'm worried about you!".  He called the next day.  They are just really busy and getting used to their new freedom, new way of life, etc. . They just don't realize how hard it is for us mom's to let go! :)

How do you get your sailor signed up for Adopt-A-Sailor for either Thanksgiving or Christmas?  My son just started BESS last Monday and I will not be able to go to Groton for either and it doesn't look like he will be coming home for Christmas.

Thanks for the information about BESS graduation.  Right now it is not looking like we will be able to attend but maybe something will change.  Maybe I should also ask if there is a graduation at the end of their A school??

I really like Outback in New London or Olive Garden in Waterford and d'angelos has the most amazing thanksgiving toasted sandwich if you're craving "leftovers" the day after.
