Thanks for the information. Is it that way every time they go somewhere new they have to re earn privileges? He already had his blue card. He was at his 1 year mark 10/7. Thanks, L

My son arrived at Bess 9/4. Said He is doing indoc and qualifications. What exactly are qualifications? He was transferred as an MM from Nuke school and will now be an MM Aux. He was also assigned a fast attack sub before he arrived does anyone know if there is an opportunity to change ? I know he was originally hoping for a boomer. I truly think he will be happy where ever he ends up. Just wonder though if they will be asked again.

Did anyone move to Groton while Sailor in A-school? And if so were you able to be assisted in doing so by the Navy? Was your Sailor able to live with you? My husband will leave for bc December 3 then head to Groton after. We have 3 children, and I want to move that way as we reside in Louisiana and school is for 10 months.

Hi.  I haven't written anything on here yet.  My daughter arrived at Groton on 8/16.  She is one of the first 4 women stationed there right now among about 1000 men.  I am very proud of her for deciding to join the Navy and to be on a submarine.

Any other 'girl' sub moms on here?

stevesgirl68,

1. There is a graduation ceremony for BESS and one for A School.  It is a small less formal ceremony but I really enjoyed both.  My sons instructors, the Master Chief, Chaplain and others came through the room during the time before the graduation and talked to the families that were there.  They asked us questions, asked if we had any questions and just chatted and joked with us.  Then during the ceremony the Master Chief would stop everything so that parents could take pictures of their Sailors.  It is not necesary to attend but if you can I would highly recommend it.

2. I can't be sure but I think he found out his graduation date in first week of actual class. Not during indoc.

3 & 4. Mine did not stay in the same barracks.  He moved once or twice and his room mates changed several times because they graduated before him.  It can be a little frustrating because they are not always in school at the same time as their room mate.

5. The last time we were there we stayed at The Navy Lodge.  The price is right and the rooms are very nice.  The time before there were more of us so I rented a house from Homeaway.com.  I found a wonderful cottage for $140 a night and it was a beautiful place right on the water.

My son is an MM.  He arrived in Groton in February and left for his new base in August.

Hope this helps

Is anyone familiar with the schooling process and time for the MM rate at Groton?

Hello everyone! I am new here. My sailor just arrived at BESS yesterday. So guess what? I have some questions.

1) Is there an actual graduation ceremony that family attends?
2) How soon do they find out the graduation date?
3) Do the sailors stay in these barracks for the duration of Sub school and their A and technical schooling?
4) If their training is a year long, do they keep their same roommate the whole way through?
5) Where is the best place for family to stay for visits one they get their yellow card?

Yes she has a facebook page.

www.facebook.com/KsHomemadeSweetsNTreats

She is amazing and works in all budgets.   My sailor loved her Bownie Peanut Butter Bombs.  But she does all kinds of custom work.   I had a standing order for every month on the 17th (his da of birth) and she never failed to deliver.

We miss her so much now that we are in Bangor!
