Jim'scupcake- you are SO right! My son turned 19 in March, and while he has grown and matured so much, he does have his "Oh Mom" moments.

I am in CA too. My son PIR'd in December, which was wonderful as he was able to come home for Christmas before he shipped off to Groton. I am now looking forward to going to his A school graduation in October (maybe then, still not positive). I will friend you and we can exchange info, maybe we are close to each other.

NDG and Renebo....I can only assume you have 18 or 19 year olds (with the "rolling eyes" comment).  My son had PIR'd from GL in early April....he LOVES Groton..is having the time of his life.  We are from CA.  He already has a vehicle there...and finds it really neat that he can drive for an hour in any direction and be in another state!  School...well, I dont hear a lot about that!!  But, he is having a blast!!  I do talk/text him every other day or so...even broke down and made myself a facebook acct so I could keep in better contact with him.  Good luck to us all!

Hi...ditto for me. My son arrived in Groton on Friday (with ProudNavyMom's son) too and is on liberty until tomorrow. He said there was a rumor that they may be put on hold for BESS...but just a rumor. He loves it so far...says its much like being in college.

My son just went through his PIR last Thursday and has been on liberty in Groton since then.  BESS starts tomorrow for him.  Does anyone have any advice they can give me about anything to do with BESS?  I'm having a hard time finding out useful information on the web so I thought I would ask the pros on here.  Any advice at all would be most appreciated.  Thank you!

The length of A school depends on your Sailor's rate. I don't know the lengths of all the different schools, but your son should be able to find out. Sometimes it's hard getting information because they don't really give the students much more than a vague idea of what's coming up, just what they need to know right now.
