Hi Eliliam, do I understand correctly that your son is still at basic? If so it will be a while before he has liberty to leave. Usually BESS is before A school, and depending on his rate, there may be a few other schools like ATT & Techno.

If he only has BESS & A school, I wouldn't bother transporting a vehicle. My son decided to buy a beater while he's there.

congratulations mrsb!  I know you are more than ready to have him home!  So many of your sons will be headed home soon.  That has to be a great feeling!  Kevsmom93 - my son has not been given his PDS.  And according to him, it really doesn't matter where he is sent, he'll be happy.

Thank you so much everyone for the kind welcome!  I haven't been on NM much since boot camp ended 4/4/14.  Am looking forward to becoming active again!

Kevsmom-it seems there are a few rates that do their A schools before going to sub school.  YN is one of them.  I am guessing the Navy has them complete that first because they can do their job on a sub or a ship either one.  I refer to the YN as the secretary of the ship.  They process all transfers, maintain personel records, handle incoming and outgoing messages.  I am not familiar with what PDS is? Next for him is BESS.  We live in IN and normally have a great bit of high humidity but my son said it doesn't compare with what he encountered in MS.   Something about it being 90 degrees before noon and 75% humidity was not to his liking.  LOL The weather in Groton has been much more comfortable for him.
