Ugh-the weather in Missouri!  I am ready for spring, but I don't think Mother Nature is as we are going to get another storm Tuesday, so glad my husband got a new snowblower a couple of years ago- this has been the year it is used a lot!  Not hearing a lot from my son in Guam except he had some ingrown toe nails cut out (Ouch) He will be coming home in May and Getting Married! So we have a wedding to plan! I am happy for both of them, being so far away from each other has been hard. Welcome to our new Group Member!! My son also bought a car when he got to Guam.

Oh ktssong! What a terrible start to a day! A flat tire! I hope things are looking up and warming up!! My son said they had rain for 5-6 days straight. That definitely happens periodically on the island. Lots of flooding. He is so sick of the heat! Lol. Happy February!! The month of LOVE!!

40inthebox! Welcome to Guam mom's group!! My son has been in Guam for 2 years. Your sailor will enjoy himself but miss his girlfriend terribly! :(. The time difference makes it difficult to communicate. My son bought a car when he got to Guam because they do need transportation to get themselves around. I think the Navy will ship a vehicle over to Guam for him, it will take months, but he's going to need it. How long will he be there? What is his rate? My son is IT and he is assigned to the Frank Cable. Flights are never cheaper then $1800. My son has been home twice on leave.  Guam is very far away but they are safe! Welcome!!

My son is heading to Guam!!
He will be heading over in April. Everyone has been so positive about Guam, so I'm sure he will love it. The hard part is he has a girlfriend who is in school and it will be so hard on them. I'm sure he'd rather enjoy such a beautiful place WITH someone. Anyway, one big question I have is about transportation. He bought a car in A school in CT. Would he need it in Guam? He will be on a sub half the time. Also, did anyone come to visit you there? It looks like flights are over $2000 each. Is there a cheaper time of year? Thanks!

Charlotte, right after I posted that message on Wednesday, I left for work it was -10 and I had a flat tire and didn't notice it until I got near the end of my neighborhood.  Of course, no one wants to change a tire in -10.  I drove it slowly back and it's fixed now but what a day that was.  We finally had the 50's today.  I didn't have a scarf around my neck and I wore just a sleeveless vest instead of a coat.  Things are looking up and it's February. So many good things are in store this month.  Does your son talk much about the weather in Guam?  Sounds like they had a storm this week but I'm wondering if that's been pretty normal for them.

Well ktssong another place that is warm is Phoenix AZ. We have been in the high 70s with lots of sunshine. This weekend we are having a cold front and we will be in the low 60s! I cannot even wrap my head around the cold that you people who live back east go through. I have family in Chicago and they have had many snow days.Kids home from school and no work for them. I hope you get out and have a little fun and I hope your winter blues lifts soon! My son is bummed because he has duty on Super Bowl Sunday.  Other than that he seems to be doing well. Hope you are all well too!!

It doesn't look like too much activity on here lately.  I've been guilty of not checking in.  It's been cold and wintery here in Ohio and moving around even to the next room out from under blankets isn't what I do much of.  I'm starting to get cabin fever though.  My son just sent me a photo of an award he received this past week and a medal.  Made me so proud.  He's nearing the end of his deployment there and we are looking forward to this year ahead of us.  Times we get to reunite.  I thought that when I get down to Mississippi it would be nice and warm and then my daughter in law told me that they got 3" of snow and they told her to not come into work.  Wow.  Is it warm anywhere?  Oh yes,  it is in Guam.  Now the funny thing is my son said he doesn't go outside after he gets back from work over there and takes a shower because he sweats just taking a small walk and has to shower again.  He is in heat and wishes it were cool; we are in frigid cold and wishing it were warm.  No matter; one thing is for sure.  When get a message we forget all about the temperature because it warms us from head to toe.  I'm oblivious to everything when I hear from him.

Everyone else out there ok?  Or are you experiencing these winter blues too? Our National History Museum in Cincinnati has an Omnimax theater and they just started playing "Journey to South Pacific" so I thought I might go see that this weekend and think about being warm.  Stay warm best you can too everyone.  I'll watch for some messages.

Hi Ladies! I hope everyone and their sailors are doing well!! I hope everyone's 2014 has been great so far! I hope all of you back east are surviving okay! We are in the 70s here in Phx and I am hoping and praying for another cold front before we say winter is over!

Take care!

I watched a countdown clock for the midnight time at Guam and sent my son a Happy New Year message right at midnight.  I never heard from him but I try my best to keep messages to him going.  He says even when he doesn't respond all the time he sees them all but just doesn't have time to answer all time.  So that's why I keep them going to him.

I sent him photos today of our winter wonderland here in Ohio.  I'm sure it looks nice and chilly compared to where he is.

I'm very happy for you Charlotte that you got to see your son.  I know what you mean about being prepared.  It took me about a year of gearing myself up that I wouldn't see him this year.  And all the prep work I did paid off.  I think me and his wife and him pulled it off.  We did all we could to get stuff to each other ahead of time and it all got there on time.  So we had a different holiday but we made it work.  And knowing we got through it makes us look so forward and appreciate the one coming we do get to have.  Saying all that to say...good idea to prepare yourself.  Make up plans and ideas of how you want to make the most of the holiday for him and together you will make it work too.  I was thinking for me....even parents that don't have kids in the military sometimes don't get a call from their own kids stateside so we are blessed to have kids that include us in their lives.  That's something we can be thankful for.

Happy New Year to all.

ktssong, i'm glad you got to hear from your sailor! It was a different Christmas but one you will always remember :)

My sailor headed back to Guam 3 days ago. He has purchased himself a new car since returning. He is excited. It was nice to have him home for Christmas but he is already trying to prepare me that he won't be home next year for Christmas. He needs to decide if he is going to re-up. We shall see.

I hope you all have a good, safe New Years Eve. Our sailors are already enjoying 2014!

Take care

Rhondazacsmom congratulations on the engagement announcement.  Happy for you and Zac..  Cute photo.  Not everyone can say they got proposed to in Guam.  That will be a great memory for them.

LMD I sent a guitar to my son when he was in Afghanistan.  I was scared it wouldn't make it but it did.  I definitely agree with the advice to just insure it for whatever it is worth so that if it doesn't you get the money back.

I also was fortunate to have a phone call from my son Christmas morning.  I was up all night cooking for the big lunch Christmas Day and wrapping last minute gifts.  I had just had a mini meltdown because I wrapped his brothers present and wrote my sailors name on the tag and looked at the gift and realized what I had done knew I was really thinking about my son and then about 15 minutes later he called on facetime and was able to see him so clearly.  We talked and laughed for a couple hours.  I had the best Christmas morning.  It was like Santa stopped on my roof and gave me a visit from my son.  I will always remember it and then he remembered that when he asked me in November what I wanted for Christmas I said just call me and sing me a Christmas song.  He said let me get my guitar mom...and he apologized that it wasn't a Christmas song but it was a song called "Dear God" by Avenged Sevenfold.  I really had to hold the tears back because the song said, Dear God hold her when I'm not there.   I kinda choked up and held it in.  It was awesome.  That was my Christmas.  I needed that to happen because I had to entertain all the rest of the family that day and I was able to do it with great joy.  It came from have a peace that we faced the holidays the best we could and we overcame.

The New Year won't be so hard because come 2014 means he'll be coming bacj to homeport this coming year.  Hooray.  So I'm excited for 2014.
