If he can get his current company to unlock the phone before he leaves he can get a plan with GTA and use it. IF he cant get them to unlock it he can get an iphone here through GTA they are pretty cheap. Barracks rooms are on land. He might have to stay at the ship for a couple of days till they assign him a room. Bring everything he has, this is his new home. If he used it on a regular basis before boot camp he will probably want it with him. The barracks rooms are pretty nice. If he has a car get it shipped he will want to have it. IF he does not have a car they are plentiful on island. You can find them cheap if you dont mind ugly.

Thank you for the info rsv277.....my son is wondering if he will have barracks on land when they are docked? What kind of 'things' did your son bring...laptop, xbox, golf clubs? He graduates A school on Nov. 10 and I can't wait for him to be home for several weeks!

Charlotte, my son is also in Guam. He is a Corpsman @ the Naval Hospital. He was fortunate enough to purchase a car from a fellow Corpsman not long after he arrived there. He has only been there since mid-March.  One of his good friends, who is also from our hometown, is stationed there & is assigned to the Cable. Fell free to private message me & I can give you their names.  As for phone service, my son had a Droid when he went to Guam & wasn't able to use. He purchased a Blackberry & has a plan w/ GTA for his cell, internet, & cable. We talk very often & also Skype quite a bit......Thank GOD!!!!  Good luck to you & your son!!:)

Thank you luvinmatt and jmazzsmom......i was wondering about communication. He has an iphone...is that going to work in Guam....is he better off purchasing something over there? Do they have computer access everyday? I'm sure these are not questions that he cares about as much as I do!! So sometimes they are on the Cable and sometimes at the landbase? Sorry if that is a silly question....new Navy mom here....he has been in 6 months. Thanks again!

I Went to Guam Last March to be there when my Granddaughter was born. I loved the Hospital. They were all so nice to us. If you ever get the chance to go,by all means take it. It's really a relaxing trip. It is such a laid back island. We miss it. We miss our daughter and her family. They have been there 3 years.Hopefully they will be back to the states for the next duty.

My son is an HM @ the Hospital in Guam. He has been there since March, he went there right from A-school also. If you'd like, or your daughter would like,  I can give you his name & contact info & he could help her get aquainted. Private message me if you'd like his info. Good luck to her! I haven't been there but my son says it's beautiful.
