Ryansmom, Sorry I didn't respond sooner I was out of town for a wedding, then flew down to Florida to help my oldest son move back to Michigan.  For some reason I couldn't reply to you on my cell phone.

When my son went to Gaum in 2013 the navy shipped all of his belongings and his car.  There was no charge to him, so I would think the navy would ship it back. My son said there are cars and household items for sale all the time.  I would think they advertise these items on base.

What will your son be doing on Gaum?

Ask all the question you want, I'll answer the best I can.

Thanks Regina. I just found out he leaves the 26th. Next week. I wasn't memtally prepared for that. I had him sell his car. But if he gets one there will navy ship it back to us when he leaves? Is there a cost? Is there a best way to find a vehicle? Can I send you a friend request? So many questions. I'm sorry.

RyansMom, welcome,My son has been in Guam for over 2 years and loves it, I hope your son will too.  Your son will want a car, if he already has one the Navy will ship it, if not there are plenty of cars he can buy from someone leaving. The phone service on the island I believe is GTA.  Don't let your current phone carrier tell you that Gaum is a US territory and the phone will work on Guam.  Your son will also need to get is own WiFi.  As far as housing the Navy will take care of that.  The weather well it rains a lot and it's hot.

Yes, this group has gotten quiet. There is an active group on Facebook called Guam Navy Moms & Family. It's a great group with lots of information and supportive Moms.

Hello Moms, it has been a while since I have posted here. My son and DID have been in Guam for a year now. It doesn't get too much easier, especially with the news I received about 12 weeks ago. I am going to be a grandma. I begged them before they left not to get pregnant while they are over there. They are now just 20 and 22. I told them they have a lot of time to have babies. They had not even celebrated their 1 year anniversary yet. I was very upset thinking I wouldn't get to see my grandchild for at least for 2 years maybe longer depending on where they get stationed next. But it is what it is. My wonderful husband decided to use our tax return money to send me over. She is due October 22nd. I am flying over on the 19th. A lot of my family and friends say I am waiting too long or cutting it close. I will get there 2 days before her due date. However, I want to spend as much time with the baby as I can. This is their first so hopefully she won't go early. I am staying for 6 weeks.
Her twin sister wants to go but probably won't have the money. They grew up under very difficult situations and they have always only had each other. I understand why my DIL wants her sister there. I told my son if she comes over I would wait to come until after she leaves. Bless his heart, he said no way I need you here mom. That is always a nice thing to hear from your kids once they are grown. My DIL wanted my sin to pay for her sisters expenses. He was trying to save up. I told him no way, you have a baby on the way and you will need that money for your family. His wife isn't crazy about it. Plus her sister wanted to take her baby who will be 22 months old by then. Can you imagine that trip with a 22 month old. She said her sister will want to see her baby. I told my sin that will last only until her own baby gets here. She is going to be scared and all consumed with her own baby.
OK well I have talked ya'lls heads off sorry just trying to get caught up. After the initial shock of the pregnancy, I have now become a crazed grandma to be.
Oh and BTW I got my Army son home from South Korea in January and he is stationed in Ft Benning.

aj2away,  ATT did the same thing to my son almost 2 years ago, we ended up with a huge bill that we did not pay.  It took about 3 months but got it all squared  away.  Make sure your sons phone is on military hold that way you don't even pay the $10.00 a month fee.  My son was able to unlock his ATT phone and he uses it for travel.  My son loves Guam and is going to try to extend his time there. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
