Hi Maria and ceej! Welcome!! I can tell you that the ship has made it safely to Thailand. If you 'like' the USS FRANK CABLE page on facebook they will post updates. They posted a picture of the ship docked this morning. I have also seen pics of my sailor posted! That's always a wonderful surprise!!  I heard from my son last night and he said they were just pulling in. I am also lucky because my son is IT and is on the computer a lot. The Ombudsman says they will be there a week.

ceej....how exciting you are going to visit! financially, we just can't swing it :(. I hate that it's so far away and so pricey for a flight!

Again, welcome!!

I guess I should formally introduce myself.  I've been snooping about since my son got to Guam in December.  He is a PS on the Frank Cable and he is currently deployed.  We are lucky that because of his job, he has access to the internet and e-mail (when its available).  I have not heard anything from him since late last week, so I am just left to wonder where in the big blue he might me. So far I'm doing ok with the unknown and I just hope he is drinking up this experience.  Our family is trying to finalize plans to go to Guam in May.  I hope we can swing it!

My son is on deployment to Malaysia and other places. Is anyone else's sailor on this trip? It's so hard not hearing from him, he left on March 11..

My son was a "stick". He carried the WI flag. His BC buddy carried the NH (my homestate) flag. My son has been in Japan since May 2011. He came home 2 wks ago for his sister's wedding. That was the first time he'd been stateside. We never visited Japan. I use a wheelchair and bathrooms are an issue. I don't know that we'll get to Guam. It is a longer trip.

My sailor has been in Guam just over two years. He will begin and finish his Navy career on the small island of Guam. After doing his 4 years he is getting out. So he will be out in about a year. He has enjoyed the island but is ready to not be so far away. We have been blessed with him getting leave and being home for the last two Christmas'. I would love to go see him but the flight is very expensive :(. That will be nice if your sailor heads to Guam with some 'friends'. My son was honor guard for PIR. what did yours do?

Thank you  Charlotte. I noticed your sailor was 02/ 930) in boot camp. My son was ship 02 div 907 back in 2010. He should be there in late Spring, I think. He will be attached to the Frank Cable also. He mentioned that there are 3-4 GW sailors headed to Guam.

How long has your son been there?

Hello BADma! Welcome! when does your sailor reach Guam? He should enjoy the island. What vessel will he be attached to. My son is attached to the Frank Cable. He is IT2

This page goes through spurts of talking and periods of quiet but welcome all the same!

My son is an MM2 on the George Washington. He will be stationed in Guam for 2 years.

squid, i think it GTA? I googled it and she can go to their page and maybe get some answers. We are with Verizon and they said my son would be able to use his iphone from here over there but he couldn't.  My son has his phone, cable and internet all together for about $200 a month. Even in the barracks you have to pay for your own cable and internet.

Does anyone know the Guam cell phone service provider?  My daughter is trying to do some financial planning before she gets there...monthyly expenses, etc. Thanks!
