He made it safe and sound if fact about half hour early. I was so happy to finally get his call that everything was ok. I'm glad he has friends there already. Have to get used to the time change. 6 hours difference right now til we have daylight saving time. Just wanted to tell everyone thanks for the support.

Better carry a big wad of tissue in your pocket. You'll cry when you do his laundry, clean his room, look at an old baby picture, find a high school sport certificate, eat his favorite food, see one of his friends in town, count the number of days until you see him. I have sailor in Hawaii and a college student at Univ of OK. Here I am in the middle - California.

Thanks Bea S and NorthernRN. I know it will get better. I still having walk into his room. Don't know if I will start to cry. I know he will be fine. I'm so used to having him around. When he was in Groton he was only a 2 hours away now its so far far away. Can't wait for that call that he landed ok. Thanks again girls for the support.

You'll feel a whole lot better when you visit him in beautiful Hawaii. Lots of great photos from other visitors. Just be sure to review earlier comments on food, sight-seeing, hotel accommodations and how to avoid "falling" into the Pacific Ocean and losing your camera, cell phone, glasses, wallet and dignity (of course, for some of us older women, that is the least of our worries when one falls into the Pacific Ocean).

He's on his way to Hawaii. It sure was hard to let go of him at the airport. Couldn't stop crying. His dad held up pretty good. Will feel much better when he lands. Can't wait for that call.

Well my son is packing his things. Getting ready for his flight tomorrow morning. Hopefully his flight will not be delayed since it may rain when he leaves. I"m ok right now but not to sure how I'll be at the airport seeing him go.:( Once I hear he landed safely I'll be fine. :)

Gloria...sadly we are right behind you. I'm cooking like a crazy women here -trying to cram all of his favorite meals into the next seven days.

Gayle - congrats to your son on 15 years of service, that is a nice milestone :-) I'm glad that his wife and daughter will be there to greet him.

Hawaii get ready for our son. FOUR more days before he leaves to this beautiful island. We are happy and a little sad to see him leave but he is going on a great adventure. He can't wait to be on his sub and see everything there is to see out there. Can't wait to see those pictures he promise to send us. I'll keep you guys posted. :)
