I love that her orders said Aloha!

Lilly, your son didn't get much notice of his leave (?) Our son has called the last two days, his orders have been posted. He has a report date...now if we just had a graduation and leave date ...

Pat, I am sorry to hear about Michael. Prayers to him and his family.

Good morning ladies, alot going on today for me but wanted to stop by and see how you are. Glad you made it back to us Pat. Your trip and fall story sounds like me...one vacation I slid off my flop flop too, got to spend the night at the ER and the rest of the vacation on crutches. Ick.

Gay...we're gonna be right behind you. Our son called this morning and he got his report date...NLT August 31st. He still doesn't have his graduation date solid yet but thinks it will be first week of August. He will have 26 days of leave on the books and is hoping to use most of them before heading to HI. He has talked to his recruiter about doing RAP and that would save five days of leave.

That's an interesting tidbit about Vegas Melia...might give me a reason to take up gambling!!! LOL

If I understood our son today, he said single E4s would either live on the ship or in the barracks so he has awhile before he will be eligible for BAH...unless he has a wife he has not mentioned to us!

We lived in Japan for five years and LOVED it and if you shopped at the commissary, you could live nicely. Our son that is heading to HI was born in Yokosuka. He was hoping for orders there but...gee he had to settle for Hawaii! LOL

Hello ...didn't you just spend 15 days with her and you get to see her again?!!! How lucky for all of you!

Yep, I think you ladies have the knowledge on airfares and I agree it's gonna be tricky especially if you have a sailor that is deployed and you' don't really know too far in advance when they are in port or out...or well I know we will figure it out when we need to.

Just got a call from our Sailor - I think he is plotting something! Won't tell me his true graduation date and is calling his recruiter about doing RAP while in town. I ask...so WHEN do you think you'll be in town and he just chuckles.
Yep, I think he's just trying to mess with me!

I'm not a gambler either Pat so I'll wish for some sunshine for you.

Have a great weekend all!

Ohhh...are you tempting us already Pat?! Those ladies have already been searching airfares for our Hawaiian adventures!

I want to go play in the sand too ladies!

I am going to be the smartest mom just hanging out with you ladies! I knew they got COLA but this is some really great information and I so appreciate you sharing it with us.

I wonder for those that do have sea duty on a ship and they are E4s...do they live on their ship or off base? We spent a lot of years in Japan when my hubby was active duty and those sailors did live on the ship unless they had dependents or were E5 if I remember correctly.

Wow Pat, I didn't realize Ashley had shore duty...what a place to serve shore duty!!! I can see with her schedule why she would work long days, 4 days on and 4 off...that could be really nice.

Hi Lily and Gay,
Generally they will get two weeks leave after A school but it does come down to what the ship needs. If they need him sooner, they rule.

I cannot tell you anything about the base as our son won't be reporting until early September but you got a lot of experienced moms/travelers in this room to help with that question. Sure sounds like there are alot of subs in Hawaii! If you go to the website for your son's sub, there often is alot of good information there about the base, housing, etc. but that info varies from ship to ship.
