The Navy paid for our son's ticket from Pittsburgh after he was home on leave after A-School. Our son came home from Pensacola for a couple of weeks and then he flew from PIT to Honolulu. It is a long flight. He is loving Hawaii! We are about an hour and a half from you in western PA. We have relatives in Erie. The Navy will take care of your son's flight home and then to Honolulu. At least they did for our son.

If he is an E-4 he might have to live off base..I know when my son went back he had to live off base because of his rank being higher and not enough room....but the $$$ is good my son is able to save half his housing pay .......if your son doesn't have a car ...my son says that a lot of time you can pick one up from someone that is leaving...I know he is single and he has 2 vehicles

Amber, your son will be housed in the barracks. No cost out of your sailor's pocket! I'm sure there are lots of sailors in Hawaii without cars. I sure he can find a friend with a car or call a cab if he is at Pearl Harbor. The Navy shipped our son's car to Pearl Harbor. He is thankful to have his car to get around.
