Wow, they did not say that when we went but that was a few years ago.  We went the 1st of January.

Also, everywhere charges for parking.  Just have to find the cheaper places.

I called the direct number to the Navy Lodge Rhonda. I can make a reservation but will not guarantee it because they do first come first serve. They have to do that because of the sailors.

sunshine73, Does the Hale Koa charge for parking?

When are you going?  When we went we stayed at the Navy Lodge, but could not make reservations earlier than 60 days in advance.

We LOVED the Hale Koa.

Mom from St Pete we'll just pray and cross our fingers too that he will get his time with you.

I guess I just have to cross my fingers and hope he gets some time off!  That all we can do.....

My son has been in the Navy for 11 years now, and my experience is that nothing is written in stone. Holiday leave is no exception. The Navy does pretty much what it wants to do...

My son is taking time either at Thanksgiving or Christmas to come visit us and his 88 year old Grandmother who he has not seen since July of 2011. She is not doing that great so we told him he needed to make a visit. Is Thanksgiving easier to get off?  I only have 3 or 4 vacation days left and can not take them before or after Christmas. If he stays past January 1st then I could take off days. Just have to see what he can get and when.....

Mine has- even though they are deployed they should be back by that time.  She will not get Christmas.  Christmas almost always goes to the sailors who have children and are married first- on her ship anyway.   (i.e. those with families)  As mine is single, she will get the "earlier" leave.  The bonus with the earlier leave is that it is typically few days longer.  The catch is you still have to have the time accumulated to take the leave.
